We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Notkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ava, how does your business help the community?
Finding our place in this world is a constantly evolving journey, but I’ve been led to the wisdom that our place is already solidified. Alas, it is up to us to forge the path and follow our purpose. There will always be criticism, perhaps from society or the ego, but our inner wisdom always knows where to turn. However, it’s up to us to look inside and listen. To quiet the chatter and get to the center. What may be unorthodox and foreign to others could very well be your true calling. Let us not forget, there’s an overarching consciousness revolution taking place. This may seem grand, but stay with me… The younger generations are itching for more. More out of life. More out of love. More than the 9-5 pencil-pushing culture we have now. Our current structures aren’t fit for the fertile minds of generations to come yet society feels cemented in its ways. So…where do we turn and what to do? We actually go back in time. For the last decade, I’ve been immersing myself in the sacred spirituality of our ancestors; learning first hand from leaders, rabbis, monks, and teachers in Jewish Mysticism, Kabbalah, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Paganism. What began as a search for personal meaning and belonging transformed into a collective awakening when I began utilizing my platform to educate and spread awareness of spirituality and all of its forms. I never imagined that my intimate experiences grappling with meaning in this universe would inspire and connect globally to so many, but this rite of passage is universal and can come at any age, anywhere, to any person. People are begging for answers…and our teachers, principals, and peers are not even asking the right questions. The least I can do is empower others to embrace their truth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To be honest, I find it difficult to label my work because I am a constantly evolving creative soul. Every part of my journey has culminated in the role I’m in today. On one hand, I’m a healer, a connector, and a friend. A big part of what I do is share my authentic self and spiritual journey with the world. It is quite a vulnerable experience, but I also know it is simply my truth and a part of my calling. It is nothing different from how I’ve lived my life on or off the screen. On the other hand, I am a writer, a creative, and an artist. Since birth, creative outlets were a catharsis for me. As a child of bi-yearly moves, the transformational process of turning emotions into art was my constant. As I moved into adulthood, I bought into the narrative that to live a fulfilled life, I had to shatter some glass ceilings and work towards the success of a corporation. So much so, I went to business school before picking up additional focuses in English Literature and Creative Writing. It has surely been a winding road, but ultimately, all of life’s twists and turns have led me here: Spiritual Content Creator/Educator/Influencer… Whether I was in college giving tarot readings, bartending talking about the meaning of life, or 16 years-old escaping to the mountains to meditate, I have always sought to comprehend universal wisdom and higher consciousness, and in the process have aided others in understanding theirs. For the last decade, I devoted my energy towards exploring the grand connections between different interpretations of the divine. This took form in my Jewish heritage and culture, Buddhist perspective and lifestyle, and Pagan rituals and connections. This may seem like a strange mix of beliefs, but as I dove deep into these sacred philosophies and studied directly from elders, they all told different stories of the same overarching cosmic energy.

After integrating this wisdom deeply into every aspect of my life, those around me naturally asked for guidance breaking free of old-fashioned structures and searching for alternative methods to higher truth (or simply learning how to master their tarot cards or moon rituals). Nevertheless, I do not have all the answers and I do not claim to. That is something only life experience, practice, and lots of reading can begin to aid with. What I do have is my own experiences, my unique perspective, and the beautiful opportunity to connect with those on the spiritual path. I aim to empower women, young and old, to awaken to their fullest potential, as well as educating on the mystical roots of so many glossed-over symbols and stories that have been rewritten by history time and time again. If my content helps even one person on a single day to feel powerful, loved, supported, or heard, that is a day well spent. Having a voice in this world is special and I don’t take that privilege lightly. The energy we put out echoes back to us tenfold. So, when putting our creations out into the world and announcing ourselves, I encourage everyone to do so lovingly and compassionately.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I just recently made the cross-country move to the best coast from the East Coast this year, I am just now exploring all the beauty and magic SoCal has to offer. Since the pandemic began, I haven’t had the chance to check out all the food spots I wish I could. I am quite the foodie. However, the bountiful local farmer’s markets have definitely kept me fulfilled in the meantime. One can never go wrong with a good book, a blanket, and a day at the beach. Not to mention, the endless hikes spanning various terrains blow me away each time. There’s also something about the air out here…The more I explore the more I resonate with just how spiritual a place this is. A truly fun, absurd eclectic mix of life with surprises at each corner. I may still sound like a tourist, but give me a few months and I’m sure I’ll be living like a native. For now, my biggest suggestion is to find a peak on a dark warm night and look out at the sky. The stars will not disappoint.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have the utmost gratitude for the countless individuals who have motivated, inspired, and supported me along my path. I always have to thank my mother and the strong women that came before her. I could not be the individual I am today without their loving guidance and acceptance. I thank all of my greatest teachers who have so kindly shared wisdom, knowledge, and stories that unknowingly shaped my life. My family for always bringing me home to my roots and grounding. For my professors who challenged my beliefs and expanded my worldview. To the creatives in my life who inspire me and push me to express myself authentically in both art and life. To my friends, who warm the world with their lights. To the elders for reminding me to glance back and the youth for reminding me to look forward. And, of course, to my books for providing all the answers to the questions yet asked.
