We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernard & Rachel Chadwick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernard & Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Bernard and I had been in a lot of different bands over the years and at some point, we decided to merge our efforts and start the band to end all bands haha. Loud Forest happened after we had our first daughter; we shifted our priorities and decided to really create something that matters. We decided to do this project on our own, just the two of us. We’ve had help over the years from labels and managers, but really at the heart of the project is a DIY energy that pivots with what we want to do and what we really want to create.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are an alt/pop band, based in Los Angeles called Loud Forest. We are a married duo that works out of our experimental sound studio in Pasadena CA, recording music, making art, hosting shows and screwing around. We have been making music together for about 6 years, and we are just getting started! We are about to release our 4th album, a labor of love – coming out in May 2022. We have 2 beautiful daughters, and another babe on the way. It’s never been easy to stay creative, but it’s always been the best part of our work and artistic contribution to the planet. Along the way we have learned to stay disciplined in our craft, press in to the community of musicians around us, hone our individual craft of songwriting, and prioritize our marriage and family above all else.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in our city include the Huntington Gardens, hiking trails up the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, and the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Of course if we had a weekend to show you around, we’d have to visit Maestros for cocktails – a Mexican restaurant across the street from our recording studio – and then on to Union for Italian food. The Gold line Metro stop takes in from Pasadena to downtown LA – where a walk through art studios and museums like the MOCA would end a perfect day!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We dedicate our shout out to our incredible daughters as well as the incredible musicians that have supported and loved us throughout musical journey.
