We had the good fortune of connecting with Boogie Fre$h and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Boogie, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by my potential and what I believe in. I believe I’m only getting better and still perfecting my craft. Me knowing where I will & can be inspires me to keep going and working harder…
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an independent artist. I recently created my own genre called “AfroCali”. I’m from Senegal but I was raised in California so I mixed both worlds together and created AfroCali. I always aim for making myself stand out and be “different”. So me creating my own genre, when it comes to the sound and beat, makes me feel like I’m accomplishing what my goal is when it comes to my creativity. I got to where I am today by not following the hype. Being myself…It hasn’t been that easy in LA because there are so many upcoming artists that it takes a little more work to get where you want to get. It’s all about having the right team or knowing the right people…My fanbase is pretty big in Senegal though. I deal with very little challenges there. The love is genuine…They love the fact that there is an artist in America representing Senegal , and in a great way…I want the people in Cali and in the world in general who are music oriented and love Cali music but aren’t tapped in with Afrobeats type of music to vibe to AfroCali. You hear both types in 1 song somehow every time… You can’t dislike it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had friends visiting Senegal I would for sure take them to the Lac Rose. A lake that stays pink, caused by large amounts of salt in the lake. Then the market HLM which is just something to experience. And at night for sure the Almadies where you’ll find all the lit nightclubs. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Zz / Chimchilla / DJ Coly Cole
