We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian & Lindsay Schlick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian & Lindsay, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the most important factors behind our success is finding the right people to be your advisors. Before our business became really successful we were doing everything on our own. We didn’t have anyone to lean on, ask questions of, or get answers regarding legal advice, money, valuing time, etc. It truly transformed our business to find the right people to guide us in these areas.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SchlickArt is a boutique studio in Valencia, CA meeting photo and video portraiture needs as diverse as the community we capture. The camera is an intimidating reflection for any of us. Our simple goal is to act as the translator between you and that lens, taking all the insecurity, thinking and self-analysis out of the conversation. We are determined to make the experience of seeing yourself the way you are as fun and empowering as possible. We approach every SchlickArt session with a coaching process that takes you out of your own head, leaving you with nothing else to do but be yourself. Every SchlickArt session includes: easy-to-follow direction in posing; the glowing effect of a natural light style; and ultimately, the promise of authentic, story-driven photography and video that foster empowerment and growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start in Newhall on Main Street for a pub/restaurant crawl. There are so many great little bars, restaurants, and shopping spots. We would also need to do a tour of the local craft breweries here in Santa Clarita. We have four and they are all so different. And finally we would visit Valencia for the restaurants and atmosphere, mostly likely visiting Salt Creek Grille for some food, maybe go the The Ivy Day Spa for a massage, and end with a visit to Wine 661 for a glass of wine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are quite a few people along the way that have helped us. First, is John Vance of Vance Wealth, who taught us to put a value to our time and how to set goals for our business and personally. Next, is Brian Koegle of Poole, Shaffery, & Koegle LLP, who has been a sounding board for community issues and legal advice for years. And finally we are truly grateful for the support of our community who has shown us an amazing amount of support in business and personally.
