We had the good fortune of connecting with Carl Mickens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carl, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I enjoy the process of creating a idea, collaborating with other creatives and to bring the idea to life. It’s such a rewarding feeling when people are entertained or enjoy your work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
CM films is the name of my company and brand. The main focus for the brand is to create images that are edgy, unique, and engaging. We focus on genre stories but with a hint realism. One of the challenges we face is growing a niche audience. We’re constantly building content but now we’re focusing on creative ways to engage with audiences. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to be patient and persistent. Knowing that obstacles are apart of the process. I want the world to know that CM Films is here to stay, we look forward to creating new and exciting projects that will push the culture forward.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best things about living in LA is the many options for things to do. If a friend was to visit, I would first start by taking them to Randy’s donuts in Inglewood. Then head over to the Santa Monica pier/Venice beach to chill for the day. For dinner, I’ll either start at Roscoes chicken and waffles or In and Out if they want something simple. I am now a lounge guy, so I would take them to the Standard hotel rooftop or Elevate lounge in DTLA for a great city view. Throughout the week, we have to hit up Runyon Canyon or Fryman Canyon for a hike. Beverly Hills and Melrose blvd for a vibe, specifically Melrose. And lastly, I would leave some room for spontaneity. I love discovering new things. Who knows, maybe a quick trip to Vegas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will say my wife deserves all the credit for her support. My family for always want the best for me and lastly my creative friends that keep me going, we support each other constantly.
