We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Lipka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Casey, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
A lot changed for me when I got in touch with my purpose and values as an artist. With anything I do, I want to uplift through creativity, collaboration and connection. When I’m making a decision about what I’m doing in work and life, I refer back to that compass. If it doesn’t fit in with how I want to live, I don’t do it. Of course there are times there are commitments that sneak up on me that don’t align with how I want to walk through the world. I usually don’t enjoy those things and do my best to learn from them and adjust accordingly moving forward. I think less about balance and more about harmony in my life as a whole. Sometimes certain aspects of my life take the front seat and that’s alright.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always considered myself a collaborative person at heart. I genuinely enjoy being a part of something larger than myself, working with other people and creating something beautiful. I also love connecting with people, connecting people and meeting creative people.
Right now I am focusing on two projects; my own artistic work and my collaborative band Dear Darling. They are both projects that excite me and light me up. I enjoy the blend of focusing on my own creative vision and being a part of a band I love. I want to create musical experiences, share my music in an authentic way, and take people on a journey. So much of what we create as artists is done behind-the-scenes and I enjoy taking people behind-the-scenes and making it special.
I’d say my music is free-floating and ethereal, sometimes earthy and soulful, but whatever it is I hope it reaches people and provides sonic balm for the heart and mind.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few places to visit in no particular order:
El Cocinero – Delicious burritos and nachos
Venice Beach – I grew up in Venice and it’s also iconic!
Griffith Park Observatory – A classic hike and view
Vista Hermosa Park – One of the coolest and most underrated parks in LA!
Ruen Pair Thai Food – absolutely delicious and expedient service
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have uplifted me and supported me in my creative journey. First I got to shout out my band members of Dear Darling, Natalie Hagwood and Hannah Jane Kile for their support and encouragement. Thanks to Cami McClaren, Kim Grumbel, Brenden Lowe, Danny Ziemann, and Jacob Warren for uplifting my artistry and being on my team! Special thanks to Nadav Peled for his LA guitar and collaboration magic, for always uplifting my music, and for connecting me with The Shoutout Series!
