We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Beanz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business came from my desire to want to live an autonomous life. I learned that creating ways to add value to others would help me attract the abundance and prosperity necessary to set my family up for success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name that I was given at birth is Quain Bevans Jr. but I also go by Chef Beanz. Not like your traditional however, I created something called ‘Intentional Consumption’ which is homegrown healing for the mind, body, and soul. Through videos, books, public speaking, community service, and merchandise, I help people harvest their full potential. The seed was planted a few years ago when I was still living in New Jersey. I was working from job to job just to pay bills but no occupation ever seemed to give me the joy that I was yearning. Chef Beanz served as an alter ego to explore my creativity. After realizing that cooking served for as a metaphor for the things that I was creating, I decided to take it more seriously and radically moved to Los Angeles. The drive gave me solitude but shortly after arriving, adversity was waiting for me. Both job and living situation fell through and I slept in my car for a bit before finding a spot to reside at. I developed a new found passion for helping people who are experiencing homelessness. A key lesson that I’ve learned is that giving is receiving. Also be the love that you want to attract. Those lessons aided me in deciding to provide a meal for someone experiencing homelessness for each order that I receive through the company. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Books that changed the trajectory of my life was ‘The Way of the Superior’ by David Deida and ‘All Bout Love by Bell Hooks. ‘The Way of th Superior Man’ helped me realize that I wasn’t living up to my full potential and how to eliminate self-sabotaging behavior. ‘All About Love’ allowed me to identify the root of why and how I love. Also how to love myself in a healthier way.
