We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Milewski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cody, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Every day is a day that I am older, more knowledgeable, wiser, wealthier, caring, loving, and patient. However, every day I also naturally grow weaker, slower, and my memory begins to slip.
This is what I perceive as balance and that is a natural part of existence.
For me, the idea of balance has changed throughout time. What balance is and how balance plays a role in the cycles of life. It is in everything and penetrates through everything.
Over time, my balance has shifted from believing that the world, the people in it, and the daily interactions we experience consist of either good or bad energy. As I grew older I began to understand that everyday interactions will consist of Good and bad interactions, as we define them.
The way I understand the truth about balance is based on the idea that in order for a sufficient amount of Good energy to exist, an equal amount of bad energy needs to exist as well.
So how does this apply to modern culture and to the life of an entrepreneur?
When life is going well, deals are closing, bank accounts are increasing with a numerical value, and relationships seem to be going well. That means right around the corner the opposite is early lurking. Yes, that means you are about to experience a slippery slope, a series of bad days, loss of profit, and ended relationships. However, when we begin to acknowledge that after the bad happens, we are awaiting good, then we can cope, deal and understand the bad moments a little bit better. Not that the bad go away, just the way we define it and allow it to control our outcomes. So, when bad things happen to me, I rejoice because I understand right around the corner is a good day. That is How is see balance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a commercial videographer is based upon desire. It is a career that I am not satisfied with. Throughout my life, I have had this gift to learn a skillset and apply it in a VERY short amount of time and become great at it. Commercial videography is just another skill set that seems to be entertaining, well more like occupying my life right now.
It all began when I became a married man. My wife often spoke about her dream to want to travel the world and become a photographer. However, she did not have the motivation to make her dream come true. So, I decided to use my gift to learn the skillset of photography and videography and began excelling in the field. I started a 6 Figure company in less than 6 months. We traveled the country and experienced the world through a lens. It was bliss.
However, as we begin to continue this “dream” I am realizing that I am not passionate about photography or videography and that her dream was just handed to her in her lap.
That is not the way a dream should be accomplished. A dream, in its most poetic form, takes a lifetime of commitment and hard work to really appreciate the essence of said dream. And when the accomplishment comes without appreciation then there is no accomplishment at all.
This is a challenge that I am still trying to overcome as I begin to transition into fatherhood. So the lesson to learn here revolves around self control and patience. Good things come to those who wait.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best friend time. We are spending a week in Topsail Beach. This is a quiet beach with a beautiful sunrise. A good sunrise is essential to start the morning right every day. The mornings will be spent not planning and moving slowly. However, when it is time to explore, downtown Wilmington offers a variety of great restaurants and attractions.
Apart from the historic district, there are aquariums, plane rides and tours, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, surfing lesson, and some of the finest coffee I have tasted in a long time.
Here in Wilmington, the culture maintains a standard of respect and authenticity. In this city of Wilmington, people hold fast traditional ideals and beliefs and I believe that is important to experience the city in all that it is.
The finest seafood and mixed cocktails are vast among the population. A short drive and a good conversation is all it takes to get to where you want to go here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe in divine interactions. And because my foundation is rooted in the teachings of Christianity, I have a solid foundation on which I make decisions. This means being selfless and make choices not based upon my own knowledge but the knowledge of the Christian Jesus. So, I am grateful for him and I can attribute my success to Jesus.
Lastly, everyone I encounter has a story to tell and a lesson to learn from it. Cheers to everyone who crosses my path because I learn from eeveryone.
