We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Livadary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The success of our brand can really be summed up with one word: mana. Mana (also the name of our firm) is an ancient Hawaiian word for power, unrelated to wealth and I truly believe that it took Stephanie and I harnessing our individual mana to create the success we’ve experienced over the past three years.
The harnessing of our mana has taken many forms since we launched. In the beginning, both of us need to dig deep to find our grit and determination as we functioned in full on start up mode. The next year, we had to pull from each of our strengths to deliver best in class financial life planning services. As I write this, we harness our mana each and everyday to run our company, and encourage our employees and clients to do the same.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Challenges around money aren’t discovered in spreadsheets alone. Research from psychology, sociology, and behavioral economics shows that the relationship between money and happiness is both complex and unintuitive. Our attitudes and beliefs about finance shape the way we live, plan, and dream.
To us, the implications of these findings are clear — people need better options and more holistic financial planning. Typical financial advisors help their clients invest their money, but at Mana, we do more.
We launched Mana FLD about three years ago, shortly after Stephanie and I quit our corporate jobs to found the company of our dreams. Looking back now, I can say with certainty that it wasn’t easy. The days and nights were long and a lot of people didn’t think we could change the way the public work with financial advisors. But we persisted, and now we look back and can say with confidence that it was definitely worth it. Today we have two full time employees and a team of women all dedicated to working with our clients to achieve their biggest dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Stephanie and I both live in (and love) Marina del Rey, so we’d want our best friend to stay nearby.
We’d spend time in Malibu to surf (one of my favorite activities) and hike (something we both love to do together). There are so many amazing restaurants that have popped up even through Covid, but we’d definitely make a stop at our local faves: Great White and Gran Blanco.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout goes to our three investors who believed in us and Mana before anyone else did. In the three years we’ve been in business, our investors have been constant sources of inspiration, guidance and support. None of our success would have been possible without them!
