We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel G Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel G, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
How did I come up with the idea for my business? I knew since I was young that I wanted to be in entertainment. I acted, danced, and liked to host events. In September 2000 I was diagnosed with AIDS and decided to learn as much as I could to educate folks in the Latino community so I became an educator and advocate. Then I started my journey in energy and spirituality in 2012 and became a Reiki Master in 2016. I wanted a way to put it all together as a business and Lilmesican Productions was already running as my content company for social media. Then I learned the term ‘social enterprise’ and I knew that’s what I wanted to do, create work that not only grew my business but put out information that educates, entertains, and energizes. During the lockdown, we launched “The Christian & Daniel Show” a talk show with my boyfriend, “The Card Divo” a card reading show, and “Put It Together Conversations” which is already up as a podcast but we brought to the live stream stage. So the idea was to be on camera then it grew from there!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The nickname “The Card Divo” or in Spanish “El Divo de las Cartas” has been the breakthrough of 2020. I have been doing readings as a hobby since 2012. Did some events, had a few clients, and occasionally did a pop-up live stream on Facebook. Then with the Lockdown, I had more time to do a regular show and folks had time to watch. So “The Card Divo Friday Night Session” came to be. What sets me aside is that I can use my actor flair to bring energy to my show and my hosting experience gives me a quick wit that allows me to talk for an hour. The compassion that I have developed over the years as an advocate and peer counselor allows me to give spiritual suggestions with an emphasis on personal growth. You add all this to my intuitive gift and the messages my Spiritual Guides send me it has blown up! It is energetically draining and emotionally stimulating. I have learned to space myself, about advertising, and reading the audience. I knew that this was the time to give the audience something familiar and new at the same time. I had to create a character that was a mix of me and the audience’s imagination. The Card Divo has become the face for Lilmesican Productions he is expected to be on wherever I go. So I hook them with Him and reel them in for the rest of my products.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m going to take us back to before March 19, 2020… My best friend is coming to town and here’s what I have planned; Day 1. Breakfast at Jinky’s in Santa Monica for Banana Nutella Stuffed French Toast and then a walk to the pier and spend the day enjoying the rides at treats at Pacific Park. Walking, shopping and enjoying the entertainment on Third Street Promanade. Followed by dinner at Mercado, carne asada and tres leches with berries for fresh dessert. Day 2. Heading to Hollywood & Highland for a Nutella Waffle from Wafflejack and checking out names on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Take photos at Madame Tussauds Hollywood and visit Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Take a ride on a bus for an LA Hollywood Tour. Dinner at Latin Fusion Kitchen and checking out the footprints at TCL Chinese Theatre. Day 3. We head to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, this is a day adventure, between the tour, photos, and lunch. This evening would be nice to spend at home regrouping so we’ll stop at Pink’s for hotdogs. Day 4. We head to Universal Studios Hollywood for a full day of rides, food, and photos. Day 5. A drive down PCH to Laguna Beach where we sit on the boardwalk with coffee and a bagle sandwich from Shirley’s Bagels. Some shopping in Downtown Laguna at a gallery, souvenir shops, or one of the local artist shops with hand-made art. Lunch at The Greeter’s Corner Restaurant looking over the beach. Sorbetto from Gelato Paradiso. Then a drive back up PCH to see the sunset. Day 6. Take a tour over to Catalina Island for a day of whale watching, eating at Catalina Island Brew House for the free pretzels with mustard. Get a cart and follow the tour, visit the botanical gardens, This is an all day event so we’ll be exhausted so we’ll order delivery. Day 7. A walk around the Los Angeles Zoo and lunch at Reggie’s Bistro and a visit with Reggie the Aligator. A walk around Griffith Park waiting for the sun to set to go into Griffith Observatory to see the exhibits, take a look through one of the telescopes and enjoy the evening. Dinner at one of my favorite places, which reminds me of Houston Texas, House of Pies. And that would be an ideal visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A Shoutout To… In Entertainment, it would be George Iñiguez, he was the first person to put me in a host chair on TV on a show called Zona Festival at Houston Media Source in Houston Texas for a World AIDS Day event. In Advocacy, it would be Dena Gray Hughes, she was my mentor in a program called LEAP for HIV/AIDS advocates that was taught in Houston Texas out of Thomas Street Clinic. In Spirituality, it would be Ruth Kramer, she is my Reiki Teacher and Mentor, who taught me how to connect, guide, and energize folks.
