We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The biggest decision that an entrepreneur has to continue to make over and over again is to BELIEVE and to persevere.
Along the journey you find yourself in different seasons, and you have to learn how to be in tune with the season you’re in.
I’ve always pictured it like a floating staircase in complete darkness.
There are three options as you stand on the step that you are on;
1.) Slowly and carefully move your foot around feeling for the next step and cautiously move forward.
2.) Jump! Take the risk and just go for it, blindly jumping forward.
3.) Standstill and continue to utilize all your current resources until a greater clarity comes.
Going through the insurmountable challenges w/ no roadmap in sight can be frightening.
As I look back I realize this journey would be empty without all of the lessons, the “nuggets of experience” that I now can share with another. And truly isn’t UPLIFTING others, really what it’s all about?
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Bosom Couture® brand lifts a woman up to her fullest potential through a women “supporting” women philosophy and helps boost confidence inside and out.
Built on a foundation of inclusion, Bosom Couture® embraces the celebration of diversity and is committed to redefining the perception of true beauty and body image.
From product conception, R & D, copywriting, graphic and design trends, writing the patent, social media and marketing strategies to procuring and establishing sales platforms, I have worn every hat in the development and launch of Bosom Couture®.
But for me, the definition of being a strong, successful female entrepreneur is not just in the creating, the executing and the hustle of my own brand.
It is also in the responsibility of showing and sharing gratitude by giving back, paying it forward, connecting, supporting, helping and lifting up those around me.
Gratitude is one of the biggest parts in being successful.
Life was never meant to be lived inwardly.
We are all here for a purpose and we are in each others lives and have crossed paths intentionally, for a reason.
I don’t believe success means what most of the world defines it as ie; we have “arrived”, our goals are accomplished, we have reached a certain financial/personal status, we’ve made it.
Success is INSIDE the continuous journey towards accomplishing our goals…in portions and in little increments. It is in the NOW, the PRESENT.
Meaning, we are not waiting for what we perceive to be the right time, to be more qualified or for better circumstances.
We are ALL capable, right NOW of playing our role in another person’s life/dream/goals/journey/future.
Together we thrive.
No one has it all, 100% within themselves alone, and this is how it was intended to be.
We all purposely need others to join us in our journey, as this is how they become enriched in their own. It’s like a 2 for 1.
What an amazing sense of accomplishment, not only in realizing our own achievements but in the humbling reward of being a part of another persons success.
There is no time like the present to give back, support, join forces, connect, get involved and share the success of someone else accomplishing their goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Southern California and Los Angeles offer something for everyone. First on my list is Disneyland! Always a magical time where we can all enjoy bring a kid again. From there I would enjoy an array of international foods and traditions found at the original Farmers Market along with great entertainment and shopping throughout the Grove LA.
Next…Anyone craving a Dodger dog?! Baseball LA style can’t be beat watching our true blue at a home game here at Dodger Stadium .
Visiting Southern California wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach as well as a trip to our snow capped mountains.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people along the way that play so many different roles in a persons journey. Each one being just as important as the next.
First and foremost I have to give all the glory to God, without, nothing would be possible.
Next a huge outpouring of gratitude for those around me that have believed and have invested in me. Whether it is mentorship, resources or capital, or my VP of Operations who has weathered many a storm with me along the way, it would not have been possible without their support.
Finally a very special thank you to Maureen Francisco of Pageants NW and The Global Beauty Awards.
Maureen is the kind of person who will go above and beyond to support another persons dream to help see it to fruition.
