We had the good fortune of connecting with Dom Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dom, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued the field of photography because of the impact it can create on others. My pictures can be viewed years even decades from now and can still give the viewer an emotion. Working in a office environment all day isn’t my calling. Capturing the “dream” through my photography is my calling
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes my art different from the rest is how I am constantly trying to reinvent myself. I used to shoot photos exclusively in color until quite recently when I discovered that black and white photography fits my style the best. I got where I am today through trial and error never relying on that lazy auto mode to solve my problems. The lessons I learned along the way are to always shoot in different locations and to shoot based off what I see and not what the camera sees. I want the world to know that my story is still developing and that you should all join me on that journey
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Koreatown(LA)would be where I first take them being that Koreatown has some of the best food in all of LA. I would take my friends down to La Jolla in San Diego for the Great beach views. Hollywood boulevard is a great place to explore as well. Irvine spectrum would be a great place to go for shopping.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
@zekiphone on instagram deserves a shoutout. The work made by zek has a other worldly kind of feel. This has inspired me to make my work much more serious in tone and has helped me in building my style of photography
