We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, what do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, I think the most important factor behind my success is a number of things. First off I would encourage any new business owner to always bet on themselves. I was having a conversation with my husband and he let me know that the decision I had made to take on a part-time job from home was a bad decision. He told me that if I really wanted to succeed I should quit that position and bet on me. It was the best advice that I had ever received, and it shook me to my core. I just want to be clear, I am never telling anyone to quit their job if there is no plan in place, but I knew it was right for me. I was letting my own fear get in the way, so always remember to BET ON YOU!

Secondly, I would say walking in my purpose no matter what. I believe that my purpose is to get millions of people up and moving towards living a healthier life. Your purpose is always something that is bigger than you. It is meant to reach others, and help people in a way you couldn’t even imagine. Every day I ask God to simply use me. I don’t know how or when in the day it shows up, but it always does. Keep going. Trust me it will work out.

Lastly, to build a successful brand I had to constantly be on the mind of my audience. This means spending time marketing and promoting yourself. Being a team of two (my husband and I) right now is very time-consuming, but when you see the fruits of your labor, it is all worth it. Faith, desire, and consistency are key. I always say that people respect consistency, but in reality, so do you! When you consistently put your time and effort into something and in return see results, it is an instant confidence boost, and your audience can feel it as well.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of my wellness company, Well & Fit Coaching, LLC. I offer personal training (in person and virtually) and wellness coaching. The vision of Well & Fit Coaching is to help each client achieve their own plan for optimal health from the inside out. We strive to explore your goals in the areas of fitness, nutrition, mental/emotional well-being. Using proven techniques and programs that will help you live your best life.

What sets me apart from others is that I focus on the “whole person.” It is not good enough to just physically train someone. I take a mind, body, and spirit approach because it is all connected. In addition to exercise, I check in with you weekly via wellness coaching and help you develop a personalized wellness plan that you can execute on a daily basis. I never suggest my clients do something that I haven’t done myself. Everything they do, I have done myself.

I am most excited when I see my clients achieving their goals. Whether big or small, they all count! We celebrate all wins! My heart is filled with joy because the path that I have chosen never fills like work to me. I am able to give my all in every situation because I truly love what I do!

Getting to where I am now has not been easy. I wanted to give up so many times. I overcame the challenges by having a strong support system and by never giving up. I keep going no matter what. Through life and experiences, I learned why both of these elements were so important.

My support system is there to provide me with honest feedback and to lift me up when I am down. They are my village. I have learned this past year the importance of having a strong support system in my corner. In addition, I learn to keep going. Whether I am doing something small or something big, it helps me to know I am moving in the right direction.

I want the world to know that there is power in movement. It can shift moods and experiences. We come out of our mother’s womb moving, and we never stop. I know now that if I can just get people up and moving I have a better chance at helping them believe that they can live a “well” life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the area that I am in. I live in the Inland Empire. We are one hour from Palms Springs, one and a half hours from San Diego, one hour from Los Angeles, and three and a half hours away from Las Vegas. We can hop in the car and have an adventure anywhere!

Locally I love the Victoria Gardens. I would take my best friend on a morning walk when nobody is there (around 9 AM). We would get some Starbucks and just walk around. There is always Frank Sinatra playing, and when the temperature is right (also once we get out of COVID-19 season), they have a farmers market every Friday morning that I love.

If you are looking for some exercise, hiking at Lytle Creek is always nice. It is off the 15 freeway at Sierra Ave and is beautiful. If you climb all the way to the top there is a waterfall with plenty of photo opportunities.

If you are willing to drive an hour or so to Los Angeles, my husband and I just went on a lovely date night at a spot called Firefly. It is an amazing restaurant in Studio City. The food was out of this world, and the atmosphere vibes were perfect for an intimate date night. It is a must-try. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I have to thank God. I know He hears my prayers. If He were to me everything that I would have gone through in my life, I would have said, “No, thank you.” Lol! Through it all, He did just as His word says, “He’ll never leave you nor forsake you,” I am so grateful to wake up every day excited to create, encourage, and actually live out my dreams.

I want to thank “my person,” my husband, Chad. You have always believed in me and bet on me before I even bet on myself. Thank you for giving me that space to be creative and for being my manager as well. I don’t always know where your ideas will take us, but at the end of the day, they are always amazing! There is truly no one like you.

I want to thank my three children, Jordan, Malia, and Cahlil. You are Mommy’s pride and joy. My reason. I don’t know what I did to have such exceptional children, but you take the cake and then some. Thank you for always making me smile and teaching me to be silly even when life gets hard. You three continue to be my motivation.

Thank you to my parents. To my Daddy for your wisdom, and my Mommy for your passion. Thank you for raising me to be a strong black woman, and to know my worth. You also always gave me the freedom to use my imagination and excel even as a child. I know you guys are always in my corner. I love you both dearly.

A truly special thank you to my sisters and best friends, Iesha and Tamara. You guys are always just a phone call away to hear all my fears, tears, silly stories, and happiness. God has truly blessed me with amazing siblings. Through it all, we got us!

Shout out to my indirect motivation and support in the form of videos, music, books, and documentaries. They don’t know it (and I don’t know if they’ll ever see this), but I still appreciated them.

Mike Peele. Thank you for filling my life with dance! Your workouts have pulled me through some of my darkest days last year. I can remember dancing and crying through the pain. Your words of motivation and joyful spirit helped me to keep going.

Beyonce. Specifically Homecoming on Netflix. Everything you juggled during this time was an inspiration to me as a mother and businesswoman.

Eric Bellinger. All of your songs are my favorite songs! Your lyrics and vibes have brought my husband and me back together after many disagreements and joyous moments. If you aren’t busy in three years, I would love for you to sing at our 15th wedding anniversary!

Kevin Hart. I love your honesty and transparency. Your documentary on Netflix, “Don’t F*ck This Up,” was so powerful for me. I love your honesty and transparency. Even when you are down, you are always looking up.

Lastly, thank you to anyone who has ever supported me, from purchasing my book to opening my emails to sharing or liking a post. You never go unnoticed. Spreading this message of health, wellness, and fitness is not always easy, but you guys make it worth it.
