We had the good fortune of connecting with Dustin Ceithamer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dustin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Take a risk! Make a strong choice. Especially when auditioning! When I am auditioning for show, film, series, etc. I assuming the casting department has been there all day seeing people for the project. I want to break up their day – make them laugh, smile, lean forward – ultimately, I want them to have a good time. I try to think of preparing my material in a way that will do that. I’ve sung a song standing on my head, revealed I was wearing a corset, brought in a little appropriate prop, etc. Always be respectful, read the room, have fun and prepare to dazzle!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently working as an actor on new series for Disney+. Totally living the dream! I’ve done a lot of live theater over the years and have worked in a lot of different departments. I think learning new skills and keeping refining the ones you have has been my secret weapon over the years and has allowed me to work as an artist for my whole adult life. Being able to shift and work different job within the entertainment business has allowed me to network and meet new people, which leads to new opportunities and more work! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and learn something. I’ve worked as a composer, actor, wig designer, set designer, painter, choreographer, director, lighting operator, prop master, etc I love it all!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In LA – I love the vegan restaurants, Thai, Indian, Mexican, etc. There are some really dope food trucks with fusion / specialty type foods that you won’t see anywhere else.
A trip to the beach is always one of my favorites things to do.
I love seeing musicals and show and in LA there is always something new being developed in a little space! You’ll find some bombs, but you’ll also stumble on some incredible treasures! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I did a lot ambitious community theatre growing up! It taught me how to pitch in, be a team player, and think outside the box on a budget! Grateful to Wayne Scott and the LIfeHouse Theatre for all the wonderful opportunities they gave me at a young age!
