We had the good fortune of connecting with Eboné McCloud and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eboné, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has been vital in how I live my life and run my business. I am a huge believer in stepping out on faith to get closer to what you want. I have been in situations where I have leaped out on faith without a plan and other situations when I have (kind of) had a plan. Either or, I have found that the lessons have been invaluable.
I believe that my biggest risk in business has been to start. So often we can sit on an idea, come up with excuses as to why we shouldn’t and we never get started. I challenged myself to birth something to offer the world and in that, I opened myself up to what ever was to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a new resident here so I am still exploring. However, I love grabbing sushi at Robata Jinya (especially a baked crab hand roll), heading over to Reparations Club to pick up books by amazing black authors, or going to Santa Monica for some time by the water. Although I have been visiting for 5 years before deciding to move here, I still have no idea about the good spots yet. I’m really looking forward to exploring. I’m open to all the recommendations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother takes the cake for this one. She was literally one of the main reasons why I even wanted to begin curating tea blends. I was amazed at how she made sweet tea for us when we were younger. Little did I know, those were the seed planting moments and her words become the water for me to grow the brand. Thanks MaMa!
I also have to shoutout my mother, who I call Moon. She truly believes in me and my purpose. Then my wonderful family and friends who have watched me grow over these last seven years. My best friend Tita has literally been keeping me going by being one of the main people who has their hand on my back to push me up the mountain when I feel like giving up. When I say she believes in me 10000%, that would be an understatement. All of my friends do and that’s why I think it is of utmost importance to be mindful of who you keep in your circle.
I can’t forget my city, Chicago! I’m from the southside of Chicago and I have been so fortunate to grow up with and around amazing creatives. Watching my friends make things with their hands, see their ideas come to life via art or street wear, listen to their songs on national radio stations, watch them on tv, and so much more has shown me that things are possible and they happen to people I love. That will forever be an inspiration. Chicago is my heartbeat.
