We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Aborn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what inspires you?
The smallest things inspire me: a walk in the woods, a great podcast episode, getting lost in a book, spending time playing Cribbage with my husband, sitting with a friend drinking tea, music, art, curiosity, and learning! Even taking a new route to the grocery store…

It doesn’t take much to be inspired in the world we live in – there’s so much to learn, see, do, feel, think, know, and understand each and every day and I want to soak up as much of it as I possibly can.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a business owner, I love helping OTHERS to set themselves apart, and actually I think that’s what ends up setting me apart as well! I shine a light on others to help them succeed and get to the truth of who they really are to help them share it with the world. With my clients, I listen closely to their needs, strive to deeply understand them and their business, and I work with them collaboratively to bring their message into the world. I’m creative and strategic, a little bit art and a little bit science, and a lot a bit loving and kind. I have a great client process that ensures people feel seen, heard, and cared for each and every step of the way.

I’ve had a variety of experience that’s also a bit unique: writing for 100 separate industries, and having had my own personal experience running three businesses online, brick-and-mortar, as well as a membership community. I practice what I teach and am right alongside the business owners I support learning, growing, and showing up every day consistently.

My business journey hasn’t been without challenges, but I think it’s in the overcoming that we learn. When I first set out to be an entrepreneur, I co-owned a local sleep boutique with my husband.

Five years in, we realized (painfully) that it wasn’t what we wanted and what we’d worked so hard to build was time to be put to bed (pun intended). The pivot was challenging and involved a lot of self-exploration, giving up an identity of who I thought I was, and learning about how to make “what was next” work. I also had to accept that it was OK to fail, even with something this big. Thankfully, I’d made so many wonderful connections and collaborations through my sleep shop, that my existing business exploded from the get-go. There were plenty of people right in my backyard who needed my skillset and marketing services. Sometimes I look back feeling like we wasted those five years, but I’m so grateful for that step because I learned so much during that time that I still to this day use in my current iterations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in very rural New Hampshire and there are lots of places to hike. Sure, there’s a sprinkle of good places to eat, drink, visit, and hang out, but the real magic is in the great outdoors. I know all the local hiking spots, swimming holes, and outdoor adventures from kayaking to snowshoeing, depending on the season. We also have an exceptional local community. So, I’d probably take my guest, along with some adventurous friends for a day-on-the-go filled with being active in nature. Then we’d go get a local bite to eat and soak up all that small-town feel that New Hampshire is known and loved for.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people who kept on believing in me and cheering me on through the thick and the thin! There are so many individuals in my life who have my best interest at heart and are there for me no matter what. Each and every one of them has played a role in my journey of getting to where I am today in various ways and in various seasons.
