We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Haan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, how does your business help the community?
Remington is a socially conscious brand that intentionally sources unique handcrafted products that celebrate artisans and honor cultures. We partner with brands that are changing the world by treating people fairly, using sustainable and ethical practices and giving back to the most vulnerable. Remington is building a more inclusive and sustainable marketplace while simultaneously supporting communities both locally and globally. Every product has an artisan, story and cause behind it. We’re casting a vote for the kind of world we want to live in and creating progressive societal change!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For the last 11 years I’ve helped my clients, friends and family transform their homes through interior design. Through this process I have researched and purchased countless products. I’ve also worked from home for a clean beauty company for the past 6 years while raising my 4 daughters and I learned a thing or two about sales in the mean time.
I grew up in Chicago and come from a large family (I’m the youngest of 5 kids) where mission work was the norm. My exposure to global poverty undoubtedly had a transforming effect on my character and worldview.
Remington was born out of an eagerness to unite both my background in design and my desire to help others. Every curated product sold by Remington is handcrafted meeting sustainable and ethical practices. By bringing people and cultures together my hope is that Remington will enrich the lives of both the artisan and the customer. I strongly believe that shopping from brands that are ethical, sustainable and cool should not be difficult. I want Remington to be a part of the solution.
Remington has had many locations over the past 2 years in business and I finally feel like Remington has found it’s home in our new Alger Heights brick and mortar in Grand Rapids, Michigan . Connecting with customers and building relationships with local families and business owners has truly been a dream come true and we’re just getting started! I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Remington and the change we can create together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not have opened my own store without the love and support of my family. I’m especially thankful for my husband Justin and our four daughters who spent many late nights working at the shop with me. I’m also very grateful for my parents who have watched the girls so much over the last couple months. It really does take a village!
