We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Bellitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a creative design business in the middle of a pandemic definitely has it’s ups and downs. I have been so blessed to work with so many amazing creatives and learn from the best in the industry. As I produced some of my favorite designs under other brands, I became to realize that if I wanted to really step into my craft, I had to take the plunge and go out on my own. As much as I would love to say I had it all figured out, Covid was actually the push that forced me to make some tough decisions and start ARRAY Creative Design. When you are a creative, you give a piece of yourself to every design you produce and as my heart grew deeper for this passion, I wanted to inspire others to follow their dreams. To do that, I had to follow mine. As the pandemic turned our industry upside down, I took the time away from events to curate what I wanted ARRAY to stand for and what I wanted it to represent within our industry and the creative world. It’s lead me to so many amazing relationships and growth as a business owner and creative.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Array Creative Design is a modern romantic full-service wedding & design studio that believes in celebrating the diversity of love and creativity. I started Array Creative Design after working with some amazing companies and believed that it was time to start truly creating what was in my heart and mind. Starting your own business is definitely not easy but it is important to invest in yourself and what you believe in. Speaking your truth and showing the world what you have to give is not an easy thing to do, but getting through the challenges and seeing past the bad days is so rewarding. When you create, you give a piece of yourself. I started this business to develop deep relationships with my clients, inspire fellow creatives with my designs, and to push the boundaries of an industry that has always pushed me. The hardest lesson I think I learned in growing this brand and continue to learn, is to lean into your individuality and stop comparing yourself to your peers. Comparison will be the death of your creativity and does nothing but stir up self doubt. When you start something new, you are bound to compare yourself, but if you lean into your why, your authentic truth, you start to build something that can’t be compared, because it’s original…it’s yours.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As much as I love spending time in the fashion district of Los Angeles, my heart is in Santa Barbara. Everyone loves a little day trip or long weekend up in sunny Santa Barbara, and with so much to do, it never disappoints. Starting the day at Hendry’s Beach with a coffee in hand from Handlebar and grabbing delicious brunch at Boathouse is the best start to any morning. After soaking in some sun, getting dressed up to bop around the Funk Zone and taste some wine is a must. Trying out the best of the best from the Santa Ynez Valley and Ojai can leave you wishing you could do this everyday. To get a tasty but light lunch, head up to Satellite for a local favorite spritz and vegan but delicious dishes to share.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am with my business without the support and love from my fellow creatives. This industry has so many successful and inspiring individuals and thankfully I have been blessed to be supported and guided by many of them. Whether it was helping with the start up process with the help from Lindsey from Magnolia Events, or getting content for my brand by the talented Emily from Anna Delores Photography, or the business advice from Sophie from Amazing Days Events, this community is something special! I wouldn’t be where I am without my right hand creative brainstormer Andrew Evans, who inspires me and allows me to pour my heart into this new creative journey.
