We had the good fortune of connecting with Fredericke Grillitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fredericke, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working as a makeup artist in the fashion industry for about 20 years on many super- models, actresses and celebrities. I met many great artistic people in the fashion industry all over the world, and worked alongside very interesting and talented people. From the very beginning of my carriere i developed a very unique style which was beloved by many models and photographers. My trademark was to create a very sheer, radiant and transparent complexion, regardless whatever makeup look was requested on eyes, lips and cheeks. Because of that unique technique the makeup felt very youthful, sexy and contemporary. After many years of traveling all over the world, being constantly on the road, locations, photo-shoots and studios all over the world, it was time to settle down. I realized that there were no makeup products for women for every day life, especially for women over 40, a natural “sexy street look” did not exist, it was all heavy, caky makeup and powder, or nothing at all. So, i decided to create my own makeup line IQ Beauty Of Course to bring another makeup choice to women who wanted to look like themselves but better. Maximum effect, minimum effort is reflected in each product. My line is all about THE GLOW! A word that is highly overused and commercialist these days, but i keep my line authentic and real.

“See skin not makeup” is still my motto and it is reflected in my products. It’s a beautiful journey, and the products helped many women to look good and feel good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The hotel Chateau Marmont, The Sunset Marquise Hotel especially during their summer outdoors concerts ‘Live On Sunset’, great bands and interesting people. 

The Morrison gallery, which is specialist in rock and roll photography, is one of my favorite hangouts, i go to all their openings. The LACMA for their Friday night jazz concerts. Of course the Malibu beaches, Osteria Angelini Restaurant on Beverly Blvd. for great Italian food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always followed Photographer Peter Lindbergh’s amazing work, i am still constantly inspired by his style. I especially want to thank my teacher Dik Peters from Amsterdam for his generous teaching style, passing on and transmitting his knowledge and skills to me. He was an Icon and incredible artist. He took me under his wings, gave me private makeup lessons, but not before testing my skills. He wanted to be sure he was not wasting his time. 🙂 He spotted my talent for natural makeup right away and pointed it out. A great teacher and mentor and the rest is history!
