We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Resilience. In my artistic career, rejection is frequent, setbacks are common, and struggles are unavoidable. Yay, right?
It is my hunger for growth that pulls me forward. Because in those moments, I learn. I learn so that I can master that mountain. And when you do bounce back, you grow. And that really is the best part of the journey! Because when it comes down to it, I believe it is in our human nature to be resilient. Life really is about learning and mastering. You know you love the hustle, when you look forward to the learning stages!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My passion for the arts and sports began at an early age of 7. Playing soccer, performing in plays, and learning to play piano all happened around the same time. (And I was supposed to be the astronaut of the family- HA!) I began pursuing acting and music full time during college, while playing soccer. It has been such a ride!
My journey to where I am today has been interesting. It has been filled with resetting, replanning and relaunching. My current place has been a result of discipline, commitment and consistency. I have learned that talent and skill only go so far. It’s the consistent hard work that brings improvement and success. In my journey, discipline allows me to improve on my craft, it keeps me grounded, and it allows me to grow in all areas of life.
Whether it is; soccer practice or composing music or filming on set, it is such a learning experience to work and connect with people. That’s where I thrive best!
My genuine passion and desire to help, allow me to add value to others and receive value from others. It is an exchange of teaching and learning that I find most important! It’s those moments that I look forward to when I work with someone or meet someone for the first time. Because in every conversation or project, we are both creating and that’s beautiful!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have the best itinerary for you!
– The beaches to soak in that California sun.
– The movie theaters, of course! And I’d share with them the world of filmmaking.
– We’d eat hot chicken sandwiches- my fave!
– Go on hikes
– Take them shopping
– Explore the downtown areas to try new foods and learn about new cultures
– Attend a sports game
– Take a tour of film studios
– Attend concerts
Best of all, at night go to the top of a mountain or hill and gaze at the city lights and stars.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is for my family (Mom, Dad, and sisters!) and their unconditional love, limitless support, and unwavering grace.
This is for my close circle of friends that have supported me from my humble beginnings. You know who you are!
I am thankful for their never ending support and continual mentorship.
I could not be where I am now without a strong support system from those around me, holding me up. Above all, I am who I am because of who He is.
I am a result of my family, my ancestors, my circle, and my community.
For those reading: You are resilient.
