We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivo Peshev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivo, what do you attribute your success to?
Stating the obvious here, but I believe that success comes to those who are persistent, hard working and ready to sacrifice. I played club soccer since I was 7 years old back home in Bulgaria and I know that growing up in an environment that demands consistent improvement, results and hard work had a major impact on developing my competitive edge and work ethic. Hard work and competing with oneself are definitely the foundation of success (at least in my experience). If you ask me to look beyond the big picture and focus on specific trades that made me and my business successful, I couldn’t single out just one, as entrepreneurship demands a lot – charisma, knowledge, tenacity, good communications skill, creativity, etc. However, I would say that my thirst to learn new skills has been the most important attribute that helped me establish and sustain a successful business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a cocktail catering company called Flair Project. I started the company with 2 beat up shakers and a bar spoon basically going from door to door bartending small gathering for family and friends. Over the last 6 years, I built a team of professional bartenders, mixologist and flair bartenders to establish a company capable of working 1000 people events. Our mission is to bring joy, quality cocktails and a little entertainment to events. Looking back at the beginning, I can’t say that it was easy to create Flair Project as I hit so many personal and professional bump along the way, but I find it much easier to overcome obstacles when I am truly passionate about my what I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I split my time between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, so my friend would not be bored. For dinner, I would take them to the Lark in Santa Barbara – my favorite restaurant. For drinks, I will go to Bungalow in Santa Monica. Kayaking in the channel island is a must and to round off the trip I will take them to Rosewood Mirmar to soak up the Cali sun and enjoy spectacular beach vista while having a refreshing drink and some bites
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate to be surrounded by a number of talented, creative and above all persistent business people in my life. I have learned something different from each and everyone. However, when I think how I got here in the first place, I think of Flair Forever Academy – a mixology and bartending school in Bulgarian that gave me the head start in the hospitality industry. The passionate instructors there taught much more than techniques and spirits – they taught me how to think about hospitality, what it means to truly satisfy a client, and how important every little details of your profession is – values I use in my business to this day.
