We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivoree Xavier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivoree, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am an extreme risk taker and I have accepted it long ago. If you give me two options and one is fatal but the other could change my life in an extremely positive way I would take that risk any day. To me, risks are important and necessary to my journey. I took the risk of leaving everyone and everything I know and knew growing up in the MidWest where I could have had a pretty solid and stable life and traded it for an uncertain path of artistry and sunshine on the west coast. I just feel like life is very short and I want to really truly immersive myself in its experiences, fruits, and labors. A lot of the time the “craziest” and riskiest thing to do ends up being the most fun thing to do. I also think success is not possible without taking a risk to believe in yourself and your talents.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I write and sing R&B and pop music. The thing that sets me apart is definitely my tone and voice. Everyone thinks I sound like Rihanna or HER, I’ve even gotten Dua Lipa. When they find out it’s a male making those heavenly sounds, they are shocked. There’s probably people today that have heard my music and saw me and still don’t believe its me singing. I use that to my advantage cause no one expects it and it leaves a mark. Not a lot of artists have that kind of “The Voice” effect. (Where you would never put their voice to their image.) It hasn’t been the easiest road, I have been negative in my bank account many times and on the brink of (and was for a few days) homelessness before but all the while I have known that one of my purposes here on this Earth is to help people heal with my music and voice, so it has kept me pushing. I’ve learned to always believe in yourself, to connect with others on a personal level, to pay attention to the signs, trust your intuition, stay strong, and to love yourself even through the hard times which will pass. The world should learn from me that you can transform anything about yourself or your life if you put your mind to it and pay attention to the details. I also am the founder of a NFT project called The Sound of Animals. The mission behind the project is to create a community of artists/musicians/music lovers who want to invest in themselves and other musicians. The funds made from the project go back to artists, specifically 10 a month to use for whatever musical endeavors they need. There are also monthly giveaways for studio time and equipment, and the Discord has different channels to connect with other producers, songwriters, singers, etc.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the Palisades and Malibu. There is a restaurant in Malibu called Reel Inn that serves fresh seafood and the views in the Palisades are so beautiful. Places like that remind me of one of the many reasons why I moved here to California. Nothing beats the beauty of an astounding panoramic sight. I would also most likely take them to Kombu Sushi in Silver Lake, it’s my favorite sushi spot and I love the hipster vibe of the area. And for clubbing and dancing, I would take them to West Hollywood, specifically Revolver and Trunks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dear friends Angel Price, Tayler Brady, Taylor Lundy, and Adrian Medina have been some of the most incredible people in my life. Angel is a boss in her own right, a true go getter and has always been very supportive. Tayler is my twin soul and inspires me to keep chasing my dreams and I admire her with all my heart. Taylor is so authentically herself and so BRILLIANT that I sometimes cannot even wrap my mind around it. She is the epitome of an amazing woman. Adrian is a newer friend but it does not even seem like it, he has the most kind and tender heart I have ever encountered. All of these people are talented and have helped me along my life’s journey. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without having experienced them.
