We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie McMahan and Genevieve LaMonaca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackie & Genevieve, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Finesse Catering was simple… to create beautiful food that not only looks stunning but tastes even better than it looks all while creating unforgettable memories for our clients. Jackie and Genevieve, who both had strong passions for entertaining and hosting dinner parties, both made the choice to take their love of food to the next level and harness their raw talent by enrolling in culinary school. That is where the two met. Once observing one another in classes, they knew there was magic there, as talent recognizes talent. After culinary school, they both dabbled in other culinary projects before solidifying Finesse together. When we created this business we knew it was a perfect fit for our personalities, it’s such a perfect creative outlet for us. Every event is so uniquely different. There is always a different menu, concept, occasion and theme…(and we absolutely LOVE doing themed events). We knew we wanted to be a luxury brand food and liquor caterer no matter the obstacles. We knew being a women owned company was also going to come with challenges as it’s a male dominated industry which is why we take great pride in it. Our company really goes above and beyond with the process from start to finish. It starts with communicating with the client, and envisioning their vision and end goal and then creating that for them with the goal of exceeding their expectations. It gives us great joy to be part of someone’s special event. It’s quite an honor to be chosen to create this for them. We treat every event like our own and we put so much energy into each individual event. On our journey into deciding to collaborate, we faced a few challenges as with any start up but nothing discouraged us from the end goal which was to be one the top catering companies in Las Vegas. Now after three years in the competitive business we did just that and are now one of Las Vegas’s highest rated and sought after food and liquor catering companies. Chef Genevieve and Chef Jackie met in culinary school and both had the same drive and passion for making others happy with food. It was an easy decision for the two to pair up and create Finesse Catering and Events. We at Finesse Catering & Events believe that we are unique in a way that we can provide you and your family, business, and/or guests with a culinary experience that is second to none. Chef Genevieve LaMonaca: Born in Canada, Genevieve discovered her passion for cooking at a very young age. She dedicated her life to food, fitness and health by continually seeking healthier alternatives for everyday meals while maintaining bold flavors. Her love of food and health utimately led her to become certified as a personal trainer and later as a Nutrition and Wellness Specialist through Canadian Fitness Professionals. In 2011, Genevieve Moved to Las Vegas and enrolled in culinary school. She graduated with high honors with a Culinary Degree from the Art Institute of Las Vegas. With her professional culinary training coupled with her background in fitness and nutrition, she decided to focus her career on special diets. She has a deep knowledge of specialty foods and diets including Paleo, Whole 30, ketogenic, LCHF, Dukan, and gluten–free. After working as a high profile private chef for three years she eventually shifted her career to the catering industry. Genevieve has a wide range of experience in the culinary industry ranging from working as a cook in a Four Diamond Michelin Star restaurant, working as a high profile private chef, and most importantly as an event caterer serving all of Las Vegas. Chef Jackie McMahan Chef Jackie McMahan is a culinary professional. At the age of seven years old she first discovered her love for food and entertaining. By organizing holiday parties every year, it gave her an early opportunity to harness her creative edge. This tradition of managing dinner parties and events was something she would continue to perfect. Wanting to learn all she could about food, techniques, and the business, Chef Jackie graduated with highest honors at The International Culinary School at The Art Institute. Right out of Culinary school Chef Jackie met ex NFL player Gerome Sapp and was Executive Chef for a healthy meal prep company called Health Binge. There she created 74 healthy meals that incorporated the GBOMBS diet. Knowing that entertaining and catering were her true passion she started her own catering company called LA VIE Catering and Events and served clients such as Lil Jon, Andrew Drummond, DJ Carnage, Dior, and Dolce and Gabbana.
