We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzy Fredrickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazzy, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a parent, I believe the most important thing I’ve done is overcome my fears and self doubts. It has allowed me to dig deeper into everything I do and has led me to really think about why and how I do things, from business to parenting. My personal growth allows me to parent from a place of more freedom and helps me to encourage my children to live life without fear.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a makeup artist and esthetician with 13 years of experience. I went straight to beauty school after high school because I had no idea what o wanted to major in but my mom knew I loved makeup so she encouraged me to get my estheticians license. I started my career at the age of 18 and opened my own spa room out of a salon next door to my house. I had zero experience and no mentorship to help me in that first year. It was rough but I learned a lot. 2 years in I sold my business, packed up my bags and moved to Portland to be with my long distance boyfriend and ended up getting married there. Unfortunately the marriage was abusive and it led to severe mental health issues. I felt very isolated in Portland as I had no friends or family. About 2 years after living there I ended up applying for my dream job at MAC cosmetics. They called me back for the interviews and I remember exactly how I felt the day they called me to offer me the position. I was sitting outside of my therapists office and cried. It was truly a moment of validation I was desperately in need of.
My time at MAC is one of the best memories for me because it was an escape from my home, I found friends who felt like family, and I loved the way I could make others feel with my artistry.
Fast forward to today, I still hold those memories close to my heart. My goal is to make every women who sits in my chair feel loved and taken care of even if it’s just for an hour. I came up with the name Beauty Wish Studio because I wanted to create a brand that truly listens to what my customers want and to make those “Beauty Wishes” come to life! As an artist my aim is not to create a different more “perfect” version of my client but to draw out the beauty I already see…..when I am done I want to hear them say my favorite words “I look like ME” with a huge smile on their face. Their is nothing better than that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love being outdoors so I would definitely have to say a trip to Palos Verdes is amazing. We typically pack a picnic and spend the day at one of our favorite spots which is White Point Beach.
If you’re looking for something a little more laid back I would definitely recommend my hometown, Long Beach! We have multiple farmers markets throughout the week, Shoreline Village with outlets for shopping and tons of restaurants to choose from. You can go Whale Watching or check out the aquarium too. There are also bikes and scooters to rent which you can ride down the beach path which will take you all the way to Belmont Shore which is another cute shopping and dining area. Belmont Shore has the cutest boutiques and restaurants and even singing Gondola rides through the maples canals. It’s a pretty sweet little spot!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Two people that deserve a ton of credit in my life are definitely my mom and my husband. My mom, has always encouraged me in all of my endeavors. She never questioned my desire for entrepreneurship or my love for makeup and music. If anything, she was the one who encouraged me to pursue my artistry when I wasn’t sure if college was for me.
Then there’s my husband who loves me and and listens to all my business ideas. He pushes me when I’m scared and helps me to think a little more reasonably when I get too excited. He’s my rock and definitely helps to keep me steady. More than anything I love the fact that he totally understands my need to express myself and pour into others through my craft.
