We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Robin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Connection and community! My business is a service-based one, and at the end of the day, it’s very intimate what we do. We consider every job an honor as we understand how difficult it can be for someone to relinquish control of their items and put their trust in our hands. Therefore, for Life in Jeneral, I’ve made connection such a priority. When my team walks into a home, we want to feel warm, calming, and inviting as we are otherwise strangers handling personal items. It’s important to build a relationship and find a thing or two that builds trust and establishes connection between us and our clients. I genuinely believe that we wouldn’t be where we are today without the value that we place on fostering a trusting relationship from the get-go.
What should our readers know about your business?
Life In Jeneral is a full-service lifestyle organizational design firm. Our roots are in organizing, but what truly sets us apart from other organizing companies is the holistic nature we bring to the job—we don’t just organize people’s belongings, we focus on improving their space as a whole. We believe that the marriage of organization, aesthetics, and function are the solution to living a more simplified and joyful life. Transformation begins at home, and the things we surround ourselves with are all-encompassing. That’s why we take the style, pursuits, and aspirations of every client into careful consideration when designing a simple & functionally organized space to live in. Getting to this stage of the business has entailed lots of trial and error and years of experience. Once we had really mastered the art of organizing any space, we were sometimes left with a desire to make the space better in ways beyond its organization. That’s why we started offering interior design styling, custom cabinetry installation, and overall design services. To get to this point, I’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices and put in A LOT of hard work. It feels incredible to see so much of that hard work pay off 5 years in. I’ve learned so much, and that’s what has ultimately grown the brand to what it’s evolved into today.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooh! If I could hit my favorite spots in the city in one day, the itinerary would look something like this: 9 am: bike ride up the coast in Manhattan Beach 11 am: brunch at The Rockefeller in Manhattan Beach 2 pm: shop at 3rd street promenade and explore downtown Santa Monica 4 pm: drinks at EP&LP in West Hollywood 5:30 pm: hit the Melrose Trading Post for some thrifting 7 pm: dinner at Gracias Madre in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood 9 pm: dessert at Salt & Straw on Abbott Kinney in Venice
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hands down my dad. He taught me everything I know about, well everything of course! But he was also my inspiration in starting my own company and venturing out into entrepreneurship. As a kid, I would watch him turn his passions into successful businesses and thought it was the most amazing thing in the world that he could do it. I saw the work he put into making his dreams a reality, and I saw the way he did it with kindness, compassion, and empathy always. I remember that every day as I work on my dream, and I really try to embody it in everything I do!
