We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Sall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jen, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
Careerwise, breaking free of imposter syndrome and fully embracing what I wanted to do. Trusting and knowing in my heart I was capable of achieving it. This meant leaving a very comfortable life in Boulder, Colorado, moving to LA and starting from scratch.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am filmmaker and Producer (P.G.A member) committed to creating good stories that get shared and spur conversations. Whether features, series, digital content, commercials or the occasional music video, I’ve worked with companies from Disney to Spotify.
And I am evolve mentor, an organization founded by Ava DuVernay, Justin Lin, and Mayor Garcetti. When I was first paired with my mentee, she was an intern. Fast forward a few years, she now has a position on a studio network show. Assisting her on the journey has been an incredibly rewarding experience, one I highly recommend.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmm with the pandemic……On Wednesday…..hit the Santa Monica farmer’s market first thing (in line at 8a!), once traffic dies head over to sqirl for brunch, walk it off on a hike through Griffith Park. Back to the westside, take the PCH to Malibu for the sunset. Grab a lobster roll at Broad Street or home to Venice and eat at Gjusta. LA locals know this is a crazy amount of driving in a day but that’s what we do for our friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jan Flemming has been in my corner since the day I met her.
