We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After going through a divorce and taking over everything financially, I needed to make extra income to survive. While working full time as a Trauma Therapist in Community Mental Health, I began to think of ways to do so. Since I have an extensive background in Journalism and Marketing through magazines, radio and more- I decided I wanted to launch a Marketing Agency because I love storytelling through visual media mediums. For each client that books my services, I make sure to create a unique vision portrayed through Digital Advertising, Public Relations, Influencer Outreach & Content Creation.

What should our readers know about your business?
While I do work as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in Traumatizes Healing full time, I have been doing Journalism and Marketing for years. In my hometown of St.Petersburg, Florida I wrote for various magazines, online outlets, etc. Now I take that talent and use it online to market for various brands or businesses. I am very talented at content creation/rotation, writing captions, articles or personal biographies and engagement with the online platforms utilized currently. I understand how to take someone’s vision and bring it to life creatively. I believe that with marketing, you should have a purpose and voice before engaging an audience with a service or product. As someone that works full time, I am proud to have launched a business that has been more successful than I thought possible in under a year! I am almost booked at full capacity before needing to hire an assistant in the future – wohoo! My clients are incredible and it’s been truly an honor to work alongside them. One of the biggest lessons I have learned working not only as a Therapist and Marketing Agency owner is that you can achieve anything despite struggles or limitations. Once you take a strength and run towards it, your possibilities are endless. It’s also important to humble yourself and always be learning; you will never know everything. Instead build the skills you are talented at and improve the ones that need work. Communication and setting healthy boundaries are critical, especially as an Entrepreneur – people can take advantage of you. Here are some COVID-19 Coping Tips for Small Business Owners 1. Take Care of Your Body — you get what you put into your body. Make sure you are getting enough rest, eating as healthy as possible (hey I love a good burger too haha), work out from home if you can and practice mindfulness by listening to what your body needs. Be good to it and it will be good to you 2. Connect with Others — while I know this last year has been a lot of loss for many, staying connected to others is critical. You are not alone in any of the thoughts or feelings you might be going through. If you want, there are plenty of online support groups through Facebook, Instagram and plenty of other platforms. If you are spiritual, churches have plenty of online options to enjoy. Find at least one friend to check in with each week. 3. Make Time to Unwind — As an entrepreneur working both jobs from home currently, I am spending more time on the phone and computers so making time to unwind helps keep my mind focused throughout the day. Things like setting up breaks throughout the day has been key to not getting overwhelmed. When you set certain hours for work and other hours to decompress; you are able to have more of a balance! 4. Set Goals and Priorities — small or big, setting goals and priorities can help create a plan for the week. Things add up, so invest in yourself and set at least one goal a month. I know a lot of us focus on the negative but in business or even your personal life, make it a priority to focus on at least one positive quality or goal you are working on. We all have to start somewhere!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beautiful thing about living in California, is that there is always so much to do and see! If I had a friend visiting me from out of town depending on their budget, I would take him/her to The Front Yard for a delicious brunch, beach trip to El Matador or Venice Beach and then dinner in the Valley or West Hollywood. The next day I would love to take them to either Universal Studios or Disneyland, or if they wanted a relaxing staycation; The Hotel June is perfect. I’m also a big lover of Mexican and Italian food so I have an extensive list including: Anejo Cantina & Grill in Sherman Oaks, Maggiano’s Little Italy located at the Grove in Los Angeles and Eveleigh in West Hollywood. If my friend wanted to get out and walk around more, places like Santa Monica Pier, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles County of Museum of Art or Runyon Canyon park are all great choices. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Recognizing my success would not be complete without the support of my mother, Johanna. My mother was my rock growing up and she continues to support me to this day. Her unconditional love, support and encouragement has made me the person I am today. I couldn’t have asked for a better mother honestly. I am a strong person that has survived countless trials thanks to her influence among others. My relationship with God is also my source of great peace and strength, without Him I wouldn’t have the blessing of blessing others.
