We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I feel that a certain amount of risk is a necessary and integral part of a fulfilling life both personal and professional. Mind you, it has to be calculated and thoughtfully considered, but after a certain point, I trust my instincts to lead me. More often that not, the risks I’ve taken have always been the right choice. I’m very much looking forward to more risk taking in the future with my career and in my life. There’s a vitality that comes from taking the leap. Given the current state of life with the pandemic this past year, exposing myself and my daughter to good risks / new experiences is quite an exciting goal and something to look forward to.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Stewart Design Inc is a full service interior design firm that focuses on new build construction. We are brought into projects shortly after the architect is hired. We work closely with the architect to collaborate on the vision of the home, office or apartment building. Every home we design has a unique style and vibe because every client is unique, that’s why no two of our projects are the same. We are constantly inspired by our clients vision for their home and what it represents to them personally while introducing elements that take a space from catalogs to custom. I get excited every time we get to begin a new project. I also get excited to be on jobsites, it’s my happy place. I love the challenge that construction brings. Starting your own business is never easy, it takes passion and dedication to your craft. I’m constantly learning lessons in my profession especially as a business owner; being creative and running a business is a hard line the straddle but necessary to be successful. Looking toward the future, we would love to be able to collaborate with developers on creating a brand of custom homes and eventually, a line of furniture and accessories.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I love nature and being outside, I would definitely take them to Malibu for a hike/ beach day followed by catching sunset and grabbing dinner at Geoffrey’s or Moonshadows. I love museums as well so the Getty Villa and Getty Center would also be on the list for the week. Another day we would ride bikes along the beach and grab lunch somewhere along the way. If it was pre-covid I would want to catch a play or concert- I think LA has some amazing theatre and music venues, the hollywood bowl is a favorite, it combines some of my favorite things; music, being outside, friends, and picnics with wine!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my shoutout goes to my parents who literally threw me into the deep end of the pool when I couldn’t swim (I was a 70’s kid) But guess what! I’m still here to tell the tale. I was a sensitive kid but they taught me resilience and perseverance. Two qualities that any business owner knows is vital to success long term. Doors will be shut, times will be tough, but to keep going in the face of all of those things makes an entrepeneur.
