We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerica Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerica, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is important, to never take risks means you will never move from where you are right now. The way I see it is even if you fall right on your face, you still gain the insight and learn from any mistakes made. The word risk it’s self is made to have a negative connotation but it’s risks that have made every successful person successful. Risk taking was a huge part of starting my business, it was something that I wanted to do for a really long time. I finally took the leap and quit my 9-5, it was the scariest risk I’ve ever taken and it’s the one that paid off the most.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since launching my business in November 2020, I’ve experienced insane growth in a short period of time! Fini Candles, named after my late grandmother whose nickname was Fini; was originally a hobby turned business to make some extra income during these uncertain times. The quick growth was overwhelming and exciting, but it did mean adjusting production to fit with the demand. There was a lot of long nights in the studio where time lines were minimal and candles were being poured by the hundreds. It definitely taught me to expect the unexpected and plan ahead, keep extra stock of EVERYTHING. You never know when you’re gonna need it.

I am so immensely grateful that our candle business dream has come true and we can share our memories through scent. When we pour our candles, we hope that we can transport you to a familiar place that you can find comfort and pleasure in by basking in nostalgia.

Sparking a candle, that can lead to a conversation of the good ol’ days or day dreaming of that amazing vacation you took, is what we want every customer to experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
From visiting LA a few times these would definitely have to be my favourite places to visit and spend time at! •Griffith Observatory and Griffith Park
• Birds & Bees
• The Original Farmers Market and The Grove
• Tacos Los Palomos
• Dulan’s Soul Food Kitchen
• Huckleberry Cafe

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Someone who has held me up and showered me with endless support and love is my significant other, Wilson.

Through each step of the way he has been there to help with everything. From product development to creating the website and product photography. Even late nights in the studio for candle pouring and packing orders, the whole nine yards.

He has been my rock through every hard decision I’ve had to make and every struggle that I’ve faced. Even when I doubted myself the most he still cheered me on and believed in me. For that I am endlessly grateful for him, I wouldn’t be able to do it without him.
