We had the good fortune of connecting with Jermaine Edmondson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jermaine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risk is something we all must do in order to get to a place we truly want to go. Through my personal experience I took many risk and I have learned that risk taking could be good and bad but you will never know until you try. Growing up in California I played a lot of different sports, not knowing my full potential or what to expect from it all. At the tail end of my sophomore year in high school, with minimum plans for college. I was given an opportunity to play varsity football at a big time high school in my birth place Canton, Ohio. This would be the first biggest risk/decision I would take in my young career. I would have to leave behind my mom, my coaches, friends. siblings, and teammates. This was no easy choice to make for a kid half way through high school.

Ultimately I took that leap of faith and moved from California to Ohio to chase my football dreams. Not knowing what to expect, I just had to trust my gut. At my new school “Canton Mckinley” my focus was solely on academics and football and I ran track in the off season to stay in shape. After playing two seasons in Ohio, I received over 30 full-ride scholarships to division 1 universities for football. This was something I never could have imagined happen if you asked me two years ago prior to this time. If I would have never taken the risk of moving across the country to chase my dreams, these opportunities never would have happened.

Throughout college I learned that I had another passion outside of football. That passion is acting and modeling, after college is when I started to take acting more serious. Once again not knowing what to expect, I packed my bags in my car and drove to Atlanta. There I landed roles for modeling, commercials, television, and was a part of major movie sets. Now I am here in Los Angeles pursuing that next goal I have set forth. I am saying all of this to say, if you have a dream TAKE RISK.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I graduated my senior year of high school with a 4.0 gpa. Something I am most proud of is taking that leap of faith and chasing my football dreams. After my senior year I was named high school football all-american, 1st team all-ohio, ranked ESPN 45, finished season with 14 interceptions and 5 touchdowns on defense. After receiving a full-ride athletic scholarship to Michigan State University I played in the Big10 college football division for 4 years. Something that I will never forget is I was a part of the 2013 Rose Bowl team, 2014 Cotton Bowl, 2X Big10 Champion, and 2015 college football national semi finalist.

To say the least none of this was easy, it took a lot of courage and sacrifice to perform on this level. I have learned a lot of lessons throughout college and I had to overcome many challenging situations. From politics, relationships, family, coaches, or old friends. There were a lot of hurdles that I had to leap to overcome and get to where I am today. I am the first in my family to go as far as I did with sports and the oldest of my siblings; so there was a lot of pressure.

Now that I am in LA as a full-time actor, model, and server. I know that I have to go just as hard as if I was playing football again. I know that great things in life does not come easy.. “If it were easy, everybody would do it” a former NFL superbowl player told me by the name of Ike Taylor. This is the mind set I will always have when I feel like times are getting tough. We have to think of why we are doing what we do in the first place and what got us here.

I just want the world to know that no matter what it is I do, I will always give 110% and won’t finish until the job is complete. My brand is to be the voice for others to help give advice in anyway I can. I know how it feels to be counted out, and I can help people who may feel the same way. Together we can overcome hardships and shoot for the stars!
