We had the good fortune of connecting with Jinous Khadivian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jinous, how do you think about risk?
I’m a big believer in taking risks and following your heart. The most fulfilling rewards in life come to us when we take a risk that we know, deep down, is what we’re supposed to do in our life, like it’s part of our blueprint. That’s what I mean by following your heart. The heart always knows, it’s just the brain that comes up with reasons why we shouldn’t do it.

Risk always took a big back seat in my life. Even though I’d wanted to be an actress since the age of three, growing up, I didn’t allow myself to indulge in my artistic calling when I got older. I wasn’t ready or willing to take the risk of following my heart yet, so I settled of a “normal/linear” life. I did a lot of what other people wanted me to do. I worked in the corporate world for many years, at a great company, and made great money. But, my heart wasn’t happy, and my calling kept calling me. Again, the heart always knows! There was a longing to be more and do more. When I finally listened to my heart and decided to finally pursue my life’s dream, everything changed. Literally. I felt happier and healthier than ever before – I even looked better! I began to allow myself to be myself again, and that feeling and experience is priceless. Now all I do is take risks! I live outside of my comfort zone every day, and I love it. I’m a better human for it – at least I hope I am!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an actress of Persian descent, I want to help pave the way for other Persian females to see that they can also follow a career in the arts – whatever that may be. They don’t have to just be lawyers and doctors (although there’s nothing wrong with those careers). There’s currently only a 2% representation of Middle Eastern actors on the big and little screen, so adding to that 2% is important to me. We all have our place in the world, and being able to see a diverse cast on screen is a beautiful thing. I’m also a member of the Baha’i Faith community, and I’d love for young Baha’i girls to see me as an example of someone they can emulate, career wise. I always wished I had an older, female Baha’i actress to look up to when I was younger. Hopefully I can be that for someone someday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The cool thing about California is there is SO much to do – the state is so vast and so beautiful! I’m obsessed with the ocean, or any body of water really, so if my best friend were visiting me, I’d definitely want to show them some of the most beautiful places I’ve been to in this state. I just discovered June Lake, up near Mammoth, and it was one of those, “where has this been all my life” moments. It’s a gorgeous lake nestled between the mountains. We’d probably end up on some cool hikes or biking around town, too. Oh, and you can’t forget Disneyland or Universal! The list goes on and on, Cali really has the best of all worlds.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve a huge shoutout. Seeing their daughter go from a successful corporate career, with a 401K, healthcare plan, and promising future, to an uncertain career with unpredictable outcomes isn’t the easiest thing for a parent. But, they love and support me unconditionally, and I am SO grateful for that. My Dad has been there for me if I’ve needed moral and/or financial support through the years, and my Mom is my biggest cheerleader – she probably knows more about cinematic history than I do! She’s always sending me youtube links to actor interviews, it’s so cute. My parents are rad!
