We had the good fortune of connecting with Jivanta Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jivanta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking plays an important role in EVERYTHING that I do. I look back on this continued journey and I have realized I have had to take risks every step of the way in my career. From leaving my old life behind to moving to Los Angeles to pursue dance and acting, even now, with my production company and fragrance line, UNI. I truly feel, as cliche as this sounds, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. When we close the door on our fears, when we take any type of risk big or small, it brings us one step closer to accomplishing our dreams and goals. Step by step, we should allow ourselves to overcome any doubts we may have within or whatever venture we are about to take on, we must set the fear aside, push forward and execute.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I’m working on a few projects. I am multifaceted, being part owner of my production company, Slumber Party Productions, CEO of my fragrance line UNI and still currently acting, I just wrapped a mini series and most recently directed a short doc-style commercial for my fragrance line UNI.
UNI is unique within itself. It is a unisex fragrance oil perfect for women and men made with notes of amber and sandalwood. Because of its base, it literally smells different on everyone.
As far as challenges, I think finding balance was the most difficult part and still is. I have my hand in a lot of different things and having a hold on everything can get overwhelming at times. I’m actively working on taking my time with the projects that I’m working on and giving them all individual attention, seeing everything through to its completion.
I would love for the world to know that I’m currently developing projects that uplift my community, The black community. That has always been my goal and also to support my fellow black women, who are on a similar path.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite brunch place is Met her at a Bar, so that would be at the top of my list. Then for lunch, Simply Wholesome (which is black owned) because I love me some West Indian food and I think I would do a disservice to my best friend if I didn’t take them there.
Hiking of any sorts is a good time. I also enjoy getting in a boat in Marina Del Rey it’s so beautiful down there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to take this opportunity to shout out my Sistah, Latrice Gregory. She has been a super supportive friend, being one of my first and loyal customers of my fragrance line, UNI. Latrice has been nothing but encouraging and uplifting throughout my whole process when starting my company. Among being an awesome friend in general! Thank You Rice, for being who you are. I love you
