We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is having a growth mindset. I constantly face problems and challenges, but I see each as an opportunity to prove myself. I reflect on my actions, see how I can improve, and take action to do better in the future. This has allowed me to overcome any obstacle in my way and become successful. I am constantly striving to be the best version of myself, and I believe that this is the key to success in any business. My business not only depends on me but also on the people who experience the result of my actions. I want to provide them with the best possible experience, which can only be done by continuously improving myself. Therefore, having a growth mindset is the most important factor behind my success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a DJ, I take pride in the time, work, and effort I put into preparing for my events. I enjoy the music discovery process and having a curated library of music that not many people have, let alone get to listen to and experience. I aim to create a fun and memorable experience for my clients and guests. And my process involves breaking it down into all the essential components that help shape that experience. From the music quality, audio quality, production, and presentation, all elements in the chain must meet the highest standards.
For example, for a chef to produce their most tasty meal, they need to source the ingredients for quality. They would also need to work in an optimal cooking environment, choose the proper equipment and tools, work with a competent team of people, and have the proper knowledge, experience and skillset to make it all work.
I take a similar approach in my art. This attention to detail and commitment to quality make my art uniquely mine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends visited for a week, I would take them along PCH and check out the beach cities. We would grab some delicious tacos, check out the local music scene and make some new friends. This would be the perfect way to show them around and give them a taste of what Southern California has to offer!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out to my mentor Brian Buonassissi for helping me reshape my approach in the DJ industry. I want to thank the fantastic experience I had at Scratch DJ Academy, where I met some talented DJs. I also want to recognize my sales mentors, Jeremy Miner and Eli Wilde. They helped me overcome my own obstacles before I could help others with theirs. I also want to show some love to the DJs who follow me on YouTube and on Instagram, appreciating the content I put out there.
There are so many others who deserve recognition, but these are the ones who have helped me get to where I am today. Thank you all for your support!
