We had the good fortune of connecting with John Charles Bricker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John Charles, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by the bountiful, odd, and miraculous worlds of imagination, and the plain old boring day-to-day stuff too. My friends also inspire me greatly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I get really excited by the unlimited possibilities of cartoons. They can squash, stretch, transcend, make a fart joke, and touch your heart all at the same time. I guess it’s my goal to tap into that cartoon magic in my own work. I’ve been really lucky to have family and friends by my side as I’ve embarked on my crooked pathways. Currently I’m really happy to be drawing the artwork for a sci-fi adventure comedy comic book my brother Joseph wrote called “Bobo & J-5 Journey to the Planet Pie!”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well to be honest I skew towards the homebody/couch potato type. But I definitely think that there would be some good evening walks, maybe a slushie or two, and a trip to the beach to get some sand between our toes. And pre-covid it woulda been great to try and check out some live music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my family, my friends, and all the teachers/mentors who’ve taken the time to show me a thing or two. I’d be lost without the support, care, and guidance of so many people. Thank you.
