We had the good fortune of connecting with John & Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John & Lynn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe one of the most important factors behind our success is the calculated risks we take. I remember taking the risks needed to grow to where we are today through trial and error. That said, not every risk we took came back with positive results. In those cases, we learn from our mistakes and continue moving on. Another important driving factor would be my kids. Without my kids, I can say the company would be very different than it is now.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe one of the things that sets us apart from others is our ability to take calculated risks and our quick design process. My wife and I have a great eye for design. She has good attention to detail and I work well with the nitty gritty as well as production costs. We work very well together and she support the company in a different way than I do. Like all businesses, it’s never easy. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? Never. Challenges are often difficult and hard, but that is what makes it more exciting. One of the lessons we learned along the way is to make multiple plans for multiple scenarios. What do we want the world to know about us? That we’re Super Gems and we are strong because we believe in our designs and pieces.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, we don’t particularly go out too much. With kids, I’d say bring them to places the kids would like. Now, with Covid-19, a good old-fashioned picnic in the park is always a safe social-distanced bet. If adults, I’d tell them to walk through downtown Los Angeles and they’ll see that there’s something new to learn everyday here. Los Angeles is constantly changing, be it positive or negative-it never gets boring.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My kids, for always giving me many reasons to not fail.
