We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Diomandé, Aka Jordé and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Ivory Coast in West Africa. I have been in the US for about 4 years now and have to say that coming from a different continent, I experienced a bit of a cultural shock. Things were done a bit differently but it forced me to be proud of my roots and stand out by doing and improving what I already knew. Coming from an African country, I have seen first hand the impact of colonialism and the lack of representation that we as black/African folks suffer from. Today, I want to be part of the change, today I want to be one of the many who put Africa, black beauty and talent on the map. I share art that inspires and makes people want to step in their essence in order to reach greatness. I now focus on sharing the beauty of those cultures that risk being erased by the lack of love and appreciation from their own people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a photographer and creative director whose mission is to inspire and promote African/black talent and beauty. I am very proud of the community I have been able to build in 2 years of doing photography, proud of the growth and knowledge I have acquired. It takes a lot of dedication, passion and discipline to grow as a person and artist. I have learned about others and myself through my art. A couple important lessons I learned were that we do indeed need people to succeed; Success won’t happen overnight for everybody; you can do much with little and most of all, comparison should never be your language.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to say that I do not “go out” that much unless for work or grocery shopping. However, for those rare occasions, I would start with a fun day in Santa Monica/Venice for I fell in love the first time I went there. I would then take them to my favorite restaurants in LA, Bossa Nova, Hot N juicy crawfish and Ebaes. I am still new to the area so we always have a bit of a Dora the explorer moment when my friends and family come to visit

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am thankful to God and all the people that I know closely or not who take the time to interact and share my content every single day. I thank my parents who so believe me.

My sister Yebhe @yebhe_ who is also a creative and has her own production company, Bhe media. She keeps me motivated, helps me with my network and makes me want to be a better person on the daily.
