We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy McElveen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance one of the most important words in my life. When the pandemic hit last year. I made a decision that I would use the time to find true balance and intention. I changed the way I was doing things finding a routine that included more self care and love. Balance to me is doing what makes your feel your best and taking time out for yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me a part is my drive, consistency and faith. Being in the entertainment business it takes discipline and focus. The journey has not been easy. I call it a roller coaster experiencing the highs and lows. Sometimes you ride with your hands up and others you are holding on for life. However, I wouldn’t change anything because some of my greatest joys have come when I was pushed up against the wall and I had to really rely on faith and the intention of why I even began the journey of storytellling. Along the way I have learned that I must believe it fully then see it in my mind then execute it. The power of manifestion is a wonderful tool and it works if you are clear on your purpose. Im learning to define my own path and that its okay to change your mind. As long as you are being a good person, enjoying yourself, and finding joys in life. I feel like you will find your destination and purpose in this life. My mission is to spread as much joy around the world touching children’s lives bringing sustainable joyful experiences and storytelling. I love performance making people laugh and feel. Being an artist you get to transform and I enjoy that process. Telling and portraying stories that people can remember. If you can think it why not do it. I am an artist and I intend to be creative until the end.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the first thing I would do is take her to one of my favorite places for food and brunch. I love Mama Shelter’s rooftop. Then we would of course do some hiking either at Runyon Canyon or one of the wonderful trails in Topanga Canyon. Depending on the time I love music if there is a wonderful concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Taking a walk on the beach in Venice or Santa Monica. One of my favorite apps to use to find cool places and things to do in LA is Fever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I must give a shoutout to my tribe. I am surrounded by some amazing people. Including friends, mentors, and family.
