We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Wahle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel like what’s been most important is that we’ve always focused on being innovative. When setting out to start SIIX, I wanted to make great music and sound design – and to do something that hadn’t been done before in that process. Having a constant challenge to improve and create something new has made it easy to stay passionate in what I do. Probably that and the simple fact that I love what I do.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This year has been crazy. Covid has disrupted all our lives in so many ways and yet I feel very fortunate to be where I am considering. That being said, I would definitely say this last year has tested me quite a bit. With movie theatres being closed and many of the big blockbuster films put on hold or postponed, I really had to stay open minded and flexible while keeping positive.
Despite the circumstances, I ended up getting to work on a couple of really big projects that I’m very proud of.
Probably the main one being our trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s new film “Old” as well as Marvel’s anticipated series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” both of which debuted during the 2021 Super Bowl. Coming from Germany and being able to create sound design and music that can be heard during one of Americas largest and most celebrated events was definitely a huge highlight in my career.
There’s also “Billie Holiday vs The United States of America”, which we did the entire sound design for, as well as “Wonder Woman 1984” which was a very rewarding experience this year.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely have to head to the beach, probably Malibu, and rent a surfboard. Maybe some cheese and wine at Figaro in Los Feliz, that’s one of my favourite spots lately, or we could also grab a beer at the Red Lion Tavern which is a fun German spot that is close to my house. To be honest I’ve got so many ideas, LA is such a wonderful melting pot of different cultures and cuisines, it’s really an endless adventure. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my business partner Lorenzo Cosci. We’ve really been through it all together. The countless long days and nights, especially at the beginning, just grinding away at everything it took to get this company off the ground and most importantly, achieve something that we could both be proud of.
As well as our families, who have truly believed in us from day one and helped us out in so many ways. I can’t tell you how valuable it has been having loving, supporting people behind me.
