We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julian, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
As a guy who continues to innovate and make moves to follow his dreams, Julian Pineda mentions “I am always inspired by others who took similar leaps. It’s an instant bond and a sense of understanding when I connect with fellow creatives and entrepreneurial peers. The highs, the lows, the daily grind & struggle not to mention the adrenaline rush makes visions much more worth the chase.”
The pandemic lockdowns gave the Los Angeles based DJ some time to reflect on his music career while working on his mind, body, and soul. As stay-at-home orders were worldwide across the globe, people spent so much alone time with themselves like never before. Music has been used as an escape for DJ Prodijay from the outside noise. An everyday muse.
DJ Prodijay describes his current search for new music daily through live streaming platforms.
“Live streaming has become the new virtual club. My favorite DJs, fellow DJ community, and worldwide artist I discover on a daily are all literally inside a dope app called Twitch. Theirs, not a day that goes by where I don’t have twitch playing in the background while working from home or cleaning around the crib. Been learning so much new music and expanding my library. Lately, I’ve been diggin’ through samples used from Hip-Hop records and adding them to my mp3 crates. Something about using a portion of a song that was made years ago and bringing it back, flipping it in a way to sound modern but yet have the authenticity is intriguing.
What’s next for the creative artist?
“Playing music that I’ve discovered and collected has strengthened my music pallet over the years. Stocked a well-diverse song selection filled with gems and classics. With the timing and alignment of where I am at in my music taste, realized it’s time to evolve as a DJ/Artist and create my unique sound, music to call my own.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Julian Pineda’s alter ego is DJ Prodijay — he looms large in creative skills, impact, and business acumen: the cool yet distant image of a modern hustler. Julian mentions the brand around his moniker Prodijay is an outlet to express his wild, creative ideas while empowering, inspiring, and entertaining the masses. As one gets older and more responsibilities come into their life, we tend to become less risk-taking. Julian finds himself staying youthful with his projects through his brand Prodijay. The word Prodijay can be seen as a phrase we use to empower our creativity and unique talents out to the world. Julian intends for his music and merch projects to have the same purpose. On a mission to create, reach people worldwide, and aspire to help motivate and encourage positivity.
DJ Prodijay looks forward to evolving the brand through releasing original tracks in the coming year or so, stay tuned.
“Key of advice that has impacted my growth is to be appreciative of opportunities no matter how big or small, and always bring your A-game! You just never who’s watching or listening. The most impactful career moments and opportunities happen when you least expect them. Continue to practice your craft and stay relevant to the changes of the industry.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Even though I’ve been around the city back and forth I still tend to run across dope local mom & pop restaurants in hip neighborhoods while continuously in the search of skyline views of the city. So here’s what a day with DJ Prodijay looks like… I’m into hiking so my first stop would be a run at Griffith Park which has views overlooking the city. The second stop would be Perch LA, one of my favorite rooftop brunch spots in Downtown Los Angeles. For dinner, I’d go to Folliero’s Pizza a local Italian restaurant in my neighborhood Highland Park. After dinner, I’d go for a quick stroll up the block and head to Blind Barber, a speakeasy bar for some drinks before the night begins, and prep for a DJ gig.
The most interesting things worth checking out are the locations that are not “hyped ” in the city. It’s an authentic raw vibe when you come across gems that are hip and not overpriced that make the find intriguing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m a true believer in the saying “teamwork makes the dream work”. My fellow creative industry peers, work colleagues. mentors, supporters, friends, and family are the contributors that pushed the career and vision forward. Many played a role on the journey at some point, It’s worth shouting out and acknowledging my appreciation for the time and energy invested in supporting because that is the most important asset one has on this earth — time & energy.
