We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
After finishing my Masters’s degree and realizing the work I was doing wasn’t for me I quit my job, sold my car, and all but 50 items to take a trip around the world. While on a rooftop in Japan I realized helping people build a body and life they’re proud of is where I wanted to put my attention.

Fast forward 12 years later and without that trip and those risks I would not be where I am today. Risk-taking is how my business started and how it continues to grow. But it’s not taking risks we need to get better at. It’s being comfortable with the outcomes – good and bad.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I help people make sense of the confusing fitness and nutrition information out there. I take a simple, practical, and commons sense approach that helps people get healthy, lose weight and stay fit. Not when circumstances are perfect. But in less than ideal situations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start with a sunrise hike in Laguna Beach (maybe top of the world or a secret spot near the Ocean). We’d follow it up with breakfast burritos from Aldofo’s and drive up PCH until we hit Venice. Stopping by the Venice Canals and skatepark for some people watching.

We’d grab lunch in Santa Monica at Uplifter’s Kitchen and wander around LA at some Iconic photo spots like the Urban Lights, Pink Wall, and Sunset at the Griffith observatory.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents. As a cliche of an answer that is – without them I would not have had the confidence to take the risks needed to get to where I am today. They’re my shadow. Always there.
