We had the good fortune of connecting with KarmaNia Smart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KarmaNia, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I think the value that matters most to me is faith. Having faith is something that I hold very close to me. It is the driving force in all that I do. Having faith in my ancestors, my higher power, and my own potential is what keeps me motivated and willing to take risks. I think the ability to have faith in times where there is a lot of uncertainty is a gift. Sometimes we can get stuck in what we see and hear, the physical world. But having faith goes beyond your senses, it allows you to tap into the belief that good things are still possible even in the hardest times of your life. My faith in myself allows me to take risks that scare the hell out of me. Even in the midst of doubt, I have this confidence that I will be guided and supported in my endeavors. In the context of my business, Starseed Botanica, faith definitely is the driving force. My faith in my own success allows for my creativity to flourish. Faith doesn’t put limits on your ideas. Thus, there are times I dream up new ideas for products, and I do not doubt how I can make it a reality. I value my faith because it drives me to be diligent with my business and dedicated. I truly believe that I am following the path my ancestors have for me with my business. When you have that belief, it doesn’t matter how things look on the outside, you know you are chasing a feeling and not really a physical outcome. In addition, my faith in God and myself helps quiet that inner critical voice that is afraid of failure. It is like a safety net. I know that anything that resembles “failure” is just actually growth in disguise. That is why I value my faith because being a believer in yourself is the best hack to success. There is no better business tool than truly believing in yourself and your business. It allows you to invest in yourself, take risks, and create your own opportunities.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I created Starseed Botanica which is a spiritual business that is dedicated to promoting healing, offering safe healing spaces, and encourages people to take charge of their spiritual journey. At the root of my business, I promote the importance in partaking in rituals. In our modern world, we are all moving so fast and are trying to keep up with each other. This promotes a collective anxiety and depression. I encourage others to take time out their day to develop rituals that help them get grounded, cleanse their energy, help manifest their desires, and just heal and decompress. I think a lot of us are receiving the message that self-care is important. I think one of the most important aspects of self-care is a consistent spiritual practice. For the first couple of months of my business, I was focused on running the online shop and keeping products in stock. I had a few workshops and healing services offered here and there. But I am excited to start working one on one with clients more and offering more of my spiritual gifts as offerings in my business. I think with offering more spiritual services, I am able to also expand on what we perceive as being spiritual. I think its easy to get lost in the pretty crystals and burning sage, and you will start to believe that thats the entirety of spirituality. But spirituality is also diving deep into your past traumas and pain, and healing parts of you that are affecting the ways in which you are showing up in the world. Spirituality is also connecting with your past lives, ancestors, and spirit guides to better understand the challenges and opportunities that you are facing today. In addition, spirituality is connecting with a deep part of yourself, learning how to love every aspect of yourself, and tapping into your power and intuition. These are lessons that I continue to learn on my journey as well. I got to this space professionally by trusting the universe and myself, and by saying yes even when I was afraid to do so. It definitely hasn’t been easy. Challenges present themselves everyday. I am learning how to balance welcoming the challenges that are necessary, while releasing the ways in which I make things harder on myself. I believe when we truly tap into our inner power, we are able to discern our true path and surrender to our journey. This makes the process easier, yet still challenging. Learning how to surrender is a everyday process. I am grateful to be on this part of my journey, it has taken a lot of mentorship, self-work, and studying to get here and I know there is more ahead of me.
Starseed Botanica is a virtual and in-person safe space for those looking to heal within community. I provide workshops, meditations, and healing services that are divinely guided and led. I encourage individuals to tap into their own power and be the driving force of their spiritual journey through the development of personal and community rituals. I offer spiritual guidance to those just starting their journey or those who have been on their journey for years. Together, we work on reframing life experiences, owning your spiritual gifts, and trusting your intuition. I also run my online shop that has spiritual tools to help assist you on your path, cleanse and balance your energy, and help you manifest your desires.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Due to the pandemic and lock-down, I have had to do a lot of work inside the home via zoom conferencing. Therefore, I love taking advantage of getting outside and enjoying nature these days. I would definitely suggest staying near the beach. Santa Monica beach is beautiful and has a promenade with great stores. For relaxation, I prefer Manhattan Beach. The water there is so beautiful and it is just a great calming vibe. Malibu beach is also gorgeous and often not as crowded as the other beaches. I would also suggest trying out Los Angeles’s great vegan options. I particularly love Stuff I Eat, Cafe Gratitude, Crossroads Kitchen, and Little Pine. For entertainment, I know that the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel has a drive-in theater on the weekends. Its very intimate and they show a lot of great fan favorites. For culture, I would suggest visiting Leimert Park. It has the best black-owned stores and restaurants and is full of African culture and history. On the weekends they often have music, drummers, vendors, and events going on. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shoutout my community. My family, friends, and peers who I share safe and healing spaces with on a regularly. When I first started my business, my community did not hesitate to support me. They shared my business with their friends and social media platforms. It really made a world of a difference to the growth of my business. I want to shoutout all the people in my community who continue to share my business, who advertise my products and services, and continue sign up for my meditations and workshops. I also am shouting out my community for inviting me to use my gifts in multiple ways. I am grateful for the invitations I receive to share my personal healing journey, talk more about spirituality, and offer a safe space to others who I have never met before. It really warms my heart when my family and friends invite others to my healing sessions, it lets me know that we really want all of us to heal.
