We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathleen, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I would like people to know that hiring a Newborn Care Specialist can involve consultations (virtual or in person) and/or night support, and that these services are affordable and available to everyone. I believe it is vital to have the type of guidance that I can provide considering that being a parent is the most important job you will ever have.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my business as a Newborn Care Specialist because I wanted to use my natural skills as a supportive caregiver and educator. Before I started this business my sensibility with newborn babies came easily to me. I knew it would be the perfect fit and it has been for 20 years! I came from the corporate world where I enjoyed much success, but my true desire was to be in a more personal and nurturing profession. By the way, Newborn Care Specialists are also called postpartum doulas and were formerly known as “baby nurses.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Malibu of course. Dinner at Nobu. I’ve got access to this ranch out there and we’d visit some horses and a rescue giraffe.
Watch the sunset.
Salazar’s in Silverlake for margaritas and great Mexican food.
Gracias Madre in West Hollywood for the best vegan food and amazing cocktails.
Lots of dining out apparently!
Laguna! Art Galleries and lunch! Stay overnight at a fabulous hotel.
Of course my deck where I live has a great view and I’m an excellent hostess so time spent there would be an excellent vacation for anyone! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh I have so many!
Kim Pabon… My constant encouraging friend and colleague.
Cathy Purcell… The wise woman of every village!
