We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The work life balance has drastically increased over time! In the beginning, when everything fell on me I was putting a lot of time into growing the business. There were a lot of sleepless nights, and I felt very guilty about the time I put into my business versus my family. I quickly learned the lesson about not doing everything yourself! It was great to keep the money, but at what cost!? I hired an employee and everything changed from there. I learned to lean over others and to delegate out. I now outsource things to others when before I would try to figure out the answer alone. For example , trying to build a website when I clearly have no background in website design. I now reach out to someone else for technical information instead of spending way too much time doing it myself. I now feel like I have a very wonderful work life balance, and know that I never want to put myself into the position to take on too much again.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started a seasoned pretzel company in my home during the pandemic based on my moms recipe. I am most proud of turning this small hobby at home into a business! We are in over 70 retail locations and have only been in business a year. There was a lot of challenges but I am where I am because of the support of others! Our community has been amazing and so supportive. I have learned to trust myself and to go with my gut, and to let go of the things that don’t work out. At Queen City Crunch celebrate the small victories and try not too take it too serious!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our city has the best restaurants!! I would have a hard time deciding where to go first. We would likely go into Southend, where you can walk around the light rail and have access to lots of options!! We would go visit Meres for wine and cheese, and then go grab small bites from several locations in Southend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband! He was my cheerleader and told me to start the business. He took over a lot more responsibility at home with our home and daughter and I am forever grateful for him!!
