We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Hutsel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was fueled by the change and transformation I saw in my life from applying these same principles and healing modalities. Before starting my healing journey, I was in the Hospitality Industry managing restaurants and coordinating private events. I worked 60-70 hour weeks as a General Manager and Beverage Director in restaurants ranging from St. Louis, MO to Dallas, TX, and even Kauai, HI. I had gotten caught in the hamster wheel of life. I barely had any time for myself or my self-care routines. I was constantly putting myself last. My work and career had become my only priority in life. I had the “title” and the “salary,” but I was miserable and felt completely unfilled. The long hours and grueling workweeks finally caught up to me and caused extreme fatigue and burnout to set in.
This burnout launched me into my journey of healing and self-discovery, where I first re-discovered meditation. Meditation, mindfulness, and energy work helped me overcome severe struggles in my life, including alcohol and Adderall addiction, depression, and low self-worth. Having seen firsthand the power of these healing modalities, I soon realized my true purpose and passion in life is to teach others about them and how they, too, can transform their own lives.
Today, I am the founder of a premium, free-spirited coaching business where I draw on my education in Meditation, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Techniques, and Reiki Energy Healing and over ten years as a hospitality leader. It is when you are aligned and learn to tap into your intuition that you will find the results you are looking for in life. My deepest desire is to facilitate transformation in my client’s lives as I have experienced in my own, allowing them to step into the highest version of themselves and tap into their magic within.
I do this through my 1:1 Coaching and a group healing membership called The Revitalize Healing Method. Think of it as a gym membership for your mind, body, spirit and soul. I am so blessed to be a part of this transformative and healing community. Healing is a process that happens in layers. There is no one and done. It takes time, guidance, and most importantly, a community of others with the same goals and mindset as you that are there to lift you up and support you.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way
This journey has not been easy, but OH, has it been worth it. Doing something new isn’t always easy. In fact, sometimes it can be terrifying. If it is easy, it is likely that you are not pushing your boundaries enough.
I remember being so terrified to take the final assessment at my Meditation Teacher Training (I almost didn’t do it). I ended up getting a standing ovation, and I can’t even explain the feeling. I emerged as a whole new person, and it pushed me through to a whole new level. I had to dig deep and look inwards.
Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be scary and when you start to step into new territory your mind plays games on you. One of the prime directives of your subconscious mind is to keep you alive and keep you safe. So when you step out of your comfort zone, your mind says, “You are safe here. Why are you trying to change?” And it pulls you back into your old habits and limiting beliefs.
It is the same thing when starting a new business; the most challenging thing is overcoming the fear. The fear of not being good enough. The fear of not being experienced enough. The fear of what will other people think? Will they judge me? But guess what is on the other side of that fear—SO much growth! A lot more opportunities and new connections. I’ve learned in this process: The greater the fear and resistance, the more significant the breakthrough.
If anyone out there is scared, worried, and letting fear ruin their life, know: You CAN do this! Do it scared! Push through the fear that is holding you back and keep moving forwards. Because the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Just keep picturing the positive outcome in your mind over and over again until it becomes real.
Because YOU are meant for greatness. We ALL are.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in the Marina for almost two years, so I feel like I am still getting to know the area as a whole. However, I would start the day out by going to one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops, The Cow’s End, and a morning walk on the beach. For brunch, we would go to Great White, Neighbor, or The Butcher’s Daughter. I would bring them to Hallowed Ground for a meditation class or a soundbath and some crystal shopping. The next day we would head out for a hike somewhere in Malibu or Topanga. A few I enjoy are Eagle Rock, Sandstone Peak or Solstice Canyon and we would stop by the pier on the way back. One afternoon I would take them to Abbott Kinney, for some shopping and dinner either at Gjelina, Scopa, or Wabi. I would, of course, have to take them to Salt and Straw for some ice cream for dessert. I’m not vegan, but I love their Vegan options. The next day, we would rent bikes and ride the bike path from the Venice Pier down to Hermosa or up to Will Rogers depending on what we are feeling. A good spot to catch the sunset and have some drinks (even though I don’t drink alcohol anymore) would be Elephante or Shutters. Since we have a week, we might escape to Joshua Tree for a few days or Ojai to switch it up. I think that about sums it up. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without the mentorship and guidance of some extraordinary people in my life. First and foremost, I would like to thank my mom and my twin sister (yes, I am a twin!) for always having my back and believing in me. I would love to give a massive Shoutout to Faye Livesey, the Founder of Radiant Mind Body out of Venice, CA, where I did my Meditation Teacher Training. Her faith in me allowed me to complete this training that has changed my life and opened so many new opportunities. As well as my mentor, friend, and coach Henry Ammar, his Masterminds and coaching sessions have helped shape me into the person and coach I am today. Lastly, my partner in crime, Gina Skye, for believing in me and seeing my potential when I couldn’t see it myself. Together we have launched Revitalize Healing Method, a community that comes together each week for Live Virtual Healing Sessions to grow, heal, and step into your highest power.
