We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Tarver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say my ability to see things as they could be, and not as they are has contributed the most to my success. I’ve had to overcome a lot of challenges and obstacles along the way. If I would’ve taken everything at face value, I would’ve have given up on my dreams, and possibly myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Like I mentioned earlier, my imagination and ability to envision things how they could be is what sets me apart the most from others. I have used these gifts over time to get to where I am today professionally. When I began my career, a lot of people did not understand or believe in my vision. But, thankfully I stuck to it and didn’t let the naysayers sway me. Aside from dealing with criticism and negative energy, I’ve also has to overcome challenges of balancing raising a growing family while trying to find balance in my personal life. I’ve been able to overcome these challenges by setting a good schedule and daily routine. It really helps me to stay grounded and focused. I’ve also been back into meditation lately, which helps me keep a clear mind.
Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way are: support those who support you, keep going even when it seems like nothing is working, and it pays to be a kind person, despite the popular trend of being “heartless”. I want the world to know that I am a single mom of 5 children that was still able to follow my dreams. If I can do it, they can too.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love being in the outdoors. So, I would start off the day with smoothies from Harun Coffee in Leimert Park, before heading out to the beach. I love the culture and vibe of Santa Monica Beach. So, we would spend at least half of the day there, just hanging out on the shore and pier. We would also take a bike ride down the coast. Once the sun starts to set, we would grab dinner at nice place in Hollywood, before spending the rest of the night at Griffith Observatory, watching the stars at night. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends that have supported and encouraged me along the way. Especially those who never told me my dreams were too much.
