We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Padgett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Most people don’t know about mat Pilates! We often see complicated positions and machinery that can be intimidating to even the most advanced athlete. As much as I love working on the equipment, teaching online classes has made me very thankful for mat work. Benefits of doing mat classes are that you can basically do them anywhere, gives a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, and builds a strong foundation. I highly recommend whether you’ve been practicing for years or are brand new to Pilates, try a mat class!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love working with people at all stages in their wellness journey. Making people move and feel better is the ultimate goal. Prior to COVID, I was teaching at multiple locations in LA. As soon as the pandemic hit, I went online teaching virtually through Instagram and Facebook live. As time went on, I wanted to create a more organized space that people could recognize, feel welcome and depend on. With the help of my husband, we converted our upstairs loft into a studio. It was amazing how quick it came together and on such a small budget! The most challenging part was finding a platform to host classes and create a more professional work flow. Sutra was the answer to everything I needed! If you’re a fitness instructor, I highly recommend. From here, I spent about a month creating a website, watching tutorials, listening to webinars…I thought my brain would explode. Although each day is a work in progress, I am very proud of how I built a virtual studio from the ground up. Now that most of the technical issues have been handled, I’ve freed up space to do what I love, TEACH!

My newest experience is a virtual event that combines Pilates + Food + Community. Pilates Brunch Hour has gotten rave reviews and we’re just getting started. First we MOVE- You’re lead through a feel good Pilates mat class. EAT- I’ve teamed up with plant based chef Angelique, Prior to the event you have the option to pick up brunch from the North Hollywood Farmers Market. Her food is life changing…I highly recommend! CONNECT- Each month I have a special guest talking about what they do best, giving tips, and creating an open space to chat. Make sure you stick around for some fun giveaways at the end! June 27th is next PBH, hope to see you there!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ahhh…there are so many gems! I’m going to assume it’s Saturday so we can hit up my favorite stand at the North Hollywood farmers market, L’Angelique! She is a plant based chef who’s cooking is sugar free, gluten free, organic and dairy free. We would definitely grab a blueberry muffin and key lime pie. We both love dogs, so brining my little guy Ollie to Laurel Canyon dog park is a no brainer. On Sunday I’d take her along for my normal routine…first Le French Rooster, listen closely….you have to get there just after 10am when the kouign-amann are just coming out of the oven, stop by Toluca Lake Farmers market, and lastly grab an oat milk chai + berry crush from Coffea. As you can tell, I’m a creature of habit. I’d wait til early Monday morning to hike up to the Observatory and order dinner from Souley Vegan. Technically this is out side of the city, but spending a few hours laying out at Leo Carrillo State Beach is a must and getting a pint at Cocobella creamery would be perfect on a hot day. Take a stroll in Toluca Lake during the Spring, all the flowers are in bloom and it smells heavenly. End with a tasty Italian dinner from either Spumante or Prosecco Trattoria. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love this! Yes, the path to success is never walked alone. I’d love to give a Shoutout to Kristen Kurihara and Move Forward Community. Honestly I don’t know where I’d be without them. The support and wealth of knowledge given by this community over the past year has been life changing. A weekly reminder that we are all in this together. Thank you thank you  @moveforwardcommunity.
