We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristie Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think people have a negative view on what the word “risk” really means. I think risk can mean something so different for so many people. For me, risk is something that comes natural because without risk what is life? I mean, if you really think about it, everything is a risk. Crossing the street is a risk, eating can be a risk if you choke, sleeping is a risk, what if you don’t wake up? Living is a risk. So, I like risks because I love to live. Some of the best memories I have made or some of the best decisions I have made have all and I mean ALL have been a risk. I built a restaurant in the middle of the Tulum jungle leaving everything I had in LA behind. Everyone that is scared of “risk” told me I was crazy, that I should be more careful, installing fear without even knowing that it is risk that makes you do GREAT things! If we are fear driven or listen to fear driven people we will always be scared. But, if we take risks, live and just go for it, no matter what it is, you will build an empire or at-least great memories.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When people ask me what I do for a living it’s complicated haha. I’m a restaurant owner, singer/songwriter & Youtuber. I know I know, that sounds very LA to say but thats really what I do. I think many people don’t take the word “Youtuber” as a real job but man, if they only knew the work that it takes! It goes beyond an 8 hour work shift and being able to clock out. I do it all! I record my own videos, edit my own videos, answer to comments ect ect. I’ve always loved being in front of the camera but never took it that serious as I do now. I started vlogging 3 years ago on my birthday and I promised myself that from that day forward I wasn’t going to stop. I kept my promise no matter how hard it got and I mean NO MATTER HOW HARD IT GOT, many days! It’s true when they say an entrepreneur gets no days off, but when you do what you love, it’s a lot funner! If I could give anyone that wants to start their own business advice, I think the only thing I can say is, keep going. But, if you are really passionate about what you are doing, you don’t really need advice. Naturally, you just keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ah! I love showing people around! Especially when they’ve never visited before. I guess it depends where I am at the moment since I’m very much in between LA & Mexico all the time. If my friend was visiting me while I was in Mexico City, I would for sure take them to Sofitel for a nice cocktail and view and Niddo for some delicious breakfast. If I was in LA, Disneyland is no brainer, the beach, and my favorite cafe by Malibu, Cafe 27. Now, If I was in Tulum I would take them to Laguna Kaanluum and Holistika for breakfast. Ah! There are so many great places just in these two countries alone. But really, nothing like Mexico! I guess if anyone is really interested in seeing my favorite places, they can go to my youtube because I truly show people around! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I had to give a shoutout to one person that has played a big role in my life and where I am right now, I would have to give it to my husband. He has been my #1 supporter since day one! I mean, we both have the same goals and at the end of the day, that matters! He has been through it all with me so he definitely deserves the shout out!
