We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Elise Child and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren Elise, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m notorious for always being lost in a daydream, and I think me pursuing an artistic and creative career came from the desire of wanting my world to always look and feel like my internal mental landscape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I think my pursuit of living a colorful life shows in my artistry; I stay very true to my individual perspective, and that has proved to serve me well. I definitely wouldn’t say my path has been easy, but what has kept me going and what I am most proud/excited about are the people I’ve surrounded myself with that are on the same path as me. Fellow artists and creatives; just radiant people! I’ve grown artistically and have had so many opportunities presented to me because of my artist friends. I truly wouldn’t be where I am without them! I believe you are who you surround yourself with, and I’m so lucky to be surrounded by gems. Pursuing a creative life has taught me strength, boundaries, work ethic, confidence, and so much more. Taking the risk of being a working makeup artist in a very competitive industry (and trusting myself that it will all work out) has helped push myself to express my perspective in other mediums that test my artistry; such as drawing and writing/poetry. I have a project incorporating both that I hope to share soon! If theres one thing I want the world to know about me/ my story is that I’m true blue! I put a lot of love into everything I do, and thats proven to have wings.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA still feels like a whole new world to me, I discover little gems everyday. But some tried and trues: Terragram Ballroom and The Moroccan Lounge for music. Melrose Trading Post if it’s a Sunday! And, of course, a drive down Mulholland and to Venice Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know without a doubt, I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of my family, my daughter, and my mentor; Priscilla Ono. As a single mother, I have endless gratitude for my family’s support. As an artist, having the support from an artist like Priscilla has kept me inspired, motivated, always learning, and humbled. Lastly, I have to thank a specific bullet of lipstick. It was a true, blood red called ‘Masochist’, encased in a vinyl black component. The moment I saw it, was the moment I fell in love with makeup and I remain entranced!
