Meet Liat Gorodenzik | Concious R+D Textile Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liat Gorodenzik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liat, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The industry I am in today is the Textile Industry, which I have such passion for from the day I understood it’s exactly me. Textiles are…EVERYTHING and are all around us – you wear, touch, sleep on, drive in and much more…it is the practice and research of MATERIALS from the smallest millimetre taken to consideration to the largest. It’s absolutely wild.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Naturally I have been gravitating to natural fibers and materials since finishing my studies as a student in textile design. I have been known to my family as the “Natural Fiber Expert”, approving every bought textile making sure it is made up of 100% natural fibers. While being a florist in New York City + Amsterdam this has led me to exploring natural dyeing with flowers on natural fabrics. Developing handmade products using this technique and expressing it in my way to beautify spaces. My sensitivity to my surroundings sets me apart – not only it being what I wear yet what I see, smell, taste and touch and extending this through my way of expression through materials in design and my art.
Mostly I am excited and grateful for my heightened senses having developed over time and experiences in different regions of the world leading me to my new project now in research and development. I can say that through my curiosity and love to discover I am where I am today as a professional focusing on natural fiber textiles, both for myself and other designers who I consult. This is continual studies of gaining experience as so much develops daily in the textile field and will continue to be fun, challenging and such growth for me. From time to time there are challenges which I receive in good spirits.
With the reminder from a talent and the depths of nature:
“Everything is everything
What is meant to be, will be
After winter, must come spring
Change, it comes eventually”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Firstly, a dip in the Mediterranean sea at the beach in Tel Aviv.
A bite at my favorite health food store “neroli” with deliciously made in-house sweets, salads, bowls and juices.
For lunch, stop at the locally made shakshuka at the Carmel market. You call and order from “irit” with her special yemenite bread + she makes everything on the spot.
Dinner, sit at the open kitchen on the bar of the “ROMANO” by chef Eyal Shani
And later for a drink sit at the bar of the “NILUS”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes to the uniquely passionately curated textile community wishing to make a difference, supporting small businesses and locally made products all over the world. I have been so honoured to be a part of this international community – of those new in the industry and on the other realm those who have 40+ years of experience. I have only experienced such a hug from all corners of the world…and I really mean all corners. Since the day I dove deep as an independent creator and I wish for many more years as such. Thank you.
