We had the good fortune of connecting with little luna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi little luna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
tell the truth. sounds simple enough, but we all know as adults that can be easier said than done. with all of my lyrics, sounds, alternate versions of the song, music videos, and yoga flows, my focus factor is that i tell the truth to the best of my ability. this project, little luna, is about re-discovering your truest self, and to do that, i have to tell my truth. i get to share my journey, as i re-discover my truest self. i believe, (that even on a subconscious level) that is why the little success i do have right now is happening. people want to hear your story, and they want to know the whole of it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
for most of my life, i had it stuck in my head that i could be only an actress, as that is what my fifteen years of training is in. that said, i am the biggest music fan… like… i always have music on or am making a playlist for a mood, or trip, or friend. my parents constantly had cd’s or records playing when i was growing up, which i think contributes to my love for many genres, styles, and eras of music. within the last six years, two specific friends of mine that i really admire (both in the music industry) reminded me separately, and at different times, that yes, i have been an actress, but i am also a singer. that sentence probably doesn’t read with much significance to you, but those were some of the first seeds planted on the journey of me rediscovering my truest self. i am allowed to change, so who am i without the labels of who i have been? the more i asked myself that question, the more i found myself knowing it was time to step into the next chapter of my “self;” to bring the words that i write and the melodies that i hear into a song released for the masses. many sessions and demos later, my first single “shift & go” was born. all of my years in the acting industry turned into a beautiful gift, as i direct all of my music videos! i want people to hear my songs and see my videos and remember, “i am allowed to change.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
ugh, i love this so much! throughout the week we would visit The Getty Museum (where a lot of my poems that turn into my songs are written!), lay on the sand in Malibu, shop in the Jewelry District and Arts District of DTLA, get inspired at the Japanese Tea Gardens, catch a concert at The Greek, and go see my favorite immersive musical experience, “Cages”. We would eat the best food from Bo Daddy’s BBQ, La Pergoletta, Feu Pho Kitchen, and Cilantro Mexican Grill. i don’t drink much these days as i realized the next day i always felt really freaking sad, but i’d grab a CANN for myself, and take my bestie to my favorite rooftop bars to get her craft cocktails: Ace Hotel and Perch. i would drive us to all of these places in my ’66 mustang with the top down and the perfect playlist blasting.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
there are a few amazing people who are key figures in little luna being what it is! today i’ll dedicate my shoutout solely to my creative director and co-creator of little luna: Jade Ehlers. years before i ever told people i sang, he heard my demos, and said when i was ready to create this world, he’d build it with me. not only did he keep his word, but he has helped me bring to life all of the visuals i had once only dreamed of, for this project. he is now also my co-manager, and i can’t wait to keep growing my business with him! book shoutout: Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
